My neighbour, Gina, is 82 years old. She and I have become really good friends. We laugh and carry on like we’ve known each other forever. In the balance of give and receive we’re helping each other and having fun together. Lucky me, I’ve been on the receiving end of yummy Greek food, and her […]

I’d like to leave memes behind for the moment and look more deeply at the worldview we call “patriarchy.” Patriarchy is one of a number of perspectives that arise from egocentrism – the view that “I” am what’s most important in any one situation. Ethnocentrism, temperocentrism, and anthropocentrism are examples of its extensions into ethnic […]
I was about to write this to an editor, when I realized I was speaking more widely. “We need more and more writers given the task that lies ahead – and more and more of them, women. “It’ll have to be ‘training on the job.’ Everyone is invited to do whatever they can to help. […]
Kiva is halfway to their goal of funding 10,000 loans to women by International Women’s Day tomorrow! There’s just one more day to meet their goal, so for a dose of inspiration they’re sharing Rosa’s story, a Kiva borrower who started the first overnight daycare and preschool in her hometown of Rochester, New York. Below is […]

I want to go on record as favoring affirmative action. I personally am involved in affirmative-action initiatives to close the disparity gap between women and men. My mother was a victim of spousal abuse. I became a gender-issues refugee adjudicator, sitting on claims, among other things, of spousal abuse. The blog serves the resurgence of […]
By Charlie Given my long history of rebelling against the way things were in the world from the time that I was a child, honestly, in retrospect, I’m astonished that it took the 2016 presidential election to finally force me to give up my fantasy that our government in the United States was mostly functional. […]
I’d like to see an association of citizen journalists begun, similar to Tom Fitton’s Judicial Watch. A Union of Citizen Journalists. I’d like to see us take the lead in reforming journalism. Society needs to be cleaned up from top to bottom. The media, the judiciary, law enforcement, the intelligence community, pharmaceuticals, the banks – […]
