Conservatives Win the Highest Number of Seats in the Dutch Election

Previously projected to win about 26 seats, the PPV has utterly beaten the odds, coming out on top with a stunning lead of 37 seats.

Wilders posted on X celebrating an early victory when the first exit poll numbers were released.  The first exit poll originally said the PVV would win about 35 seats.

Going to bat for Dutch farmers

A proud supporter of the Dutch farmers during their uprising, which was partly inspired by the Canadian Freedom Convoy, Wilders stated last Monday saying, “Proud of our farmers. Let’s cherish them and adapt national and EU rules to preserve them!”

In his support of the Dutch farmer “revolt” during 2022, Wilders took to the streets with them expressing his grievances on the government’s strangling of the agricultural industry through Nitrogen fertilizer cuts.

In early 2023, in an interview with Wilders, The Counter Signal’s Keean Bexte asked him about his view of the government’s attack on Dutch farmers, as well as what he thought of Trudeau’s similar policy on the cutting down on Nitrogen fertilizer.

“It’s the Leftist agenda of Trudeau and Rutte [and are] of the same side of the same coin.  They are both leftist liberal politicians who believe in environmental issues [and] that those are more important than the issues of our history and our farmers,” said Geert.

Wilders further added saying, “Holland would not even exist [without] our farmers and fishermen.  It is totally ridiculous.  People have to resist and we do resist.”

It is debated how the PVV will organize a coalition or a governing structure considering the many parties governing the Netherlands, however, the PVV with a majority of seats has the upper hand in negotiations.

In July of 2023, the socialist Rutte government from the People’s Party for Freedom and Democracy (VVD) party confirmed his coalition had collapsed, which in turn prompted a snap election, culminating in the events of the election on November 22, 2023.

The Leftist alliance between the parties, the GroenLinks-PvdA and the Labour Party (PvdA), have received 25 seats, an increase from 17.

The Rutte government’s People’s Party for Freedom and Democracy (VVD), now led by Dilan Yeşilgöz-Zegerius won 24 seats, a massive decrease from their previous 34 seat lead.

Earlier this week, Argentina elected right-leaning libertarian Javier Milei in a surprising upset of the socialist incumbent party.
