The experiment, the journey that our lives are can be seen at many levels of granularity. Seen from Creator’s level, It’s amusing Itself and multiplying Its own knowledge of Its unlimited potential by giving birth, through Its aspect as the Divine Mother, to universes, dimensions, life forms, and worlds, allowing them to live and learn, and then transforming them.
Seen from the level of the Elohim, or Creator Gods, life is an experiment in the creation, preservation and transformation of life and life forms.
Anything below that is involved in (1) returning home and (2) serving God in the form of the Mother. That includes the archangels all the way “down” to us.
Seen from our level, we have different purposes from the most senior of returning to the One to the more junior of knowing our responses to life, where we’re blocked, and where we’ve freed ourselves and can fly free.
So many people resist the experiment that life is. I did. Here’s Archangel Michael pointing out to me an area of life I resisted in:
Archangel Michael: Ground yourself. Be human and love the experience of being in form.
Steve Beckow: Boy. Eat, drink and be merry.
AAM: It is difficult, no? (1)
Archangel Michael is showing that he knows me. When I wasn’t being a stripped-down warrior in my few lifetimes on Earth, I was a monk. And AAM knows I haven’t a great deal of interest in things that many folks are interested in.
If we don’t resist life, then the opportunity arises to try on and test out many ways of being, truths, etc., all of this in order to find out what the ultimate Truth is.
Given that our trying them on is to find the truth of life, we can count on Jesus’ adage to show us the way: “The truth will set you free.” We can use the ongoing experience of more and more release (being set free) to tell us when if we’re on the trail of the truth, when we’ve found the truth, etc.
In the experiment of life, there’s the truth for me, the truth for you, the truth of the moment, the truth relative to one dimension or another, on up to the ultimate truth. In the experiment that life is, we have to make the distinction of what level of truth we’re dealing with. The most common error in the experiment of life is for two people to be discussing truth at different levels without knowing it.
Zen choans and sage’s adages are famous for harnessing this tendency. The famous adage to “die before dying” is one. It mixes two levels of truth and causes a realization upon seeing our error. (Sorry. I may have just spoiled Zen choans for you.)
One level of “die before dying” is the death of the physical body and the other level is the “death” of the ego. Let the ego die before the physical body dies and you’ll be enlightened is what the adage says.
When we realize we can’t understand the adage because we’ve been reducing matters to just one level of reality, we may have an “Aha!” If we’re pure enough, that “Aha!” could catapult us into a spiritual experience.
Many Neo-Advaitist teachers fail to make the distinction between the relative and absolute truth. They give their students absolute answers to relative questions and that can be very frustrating and confusing. We need to observe the control conditions that are at play in the experiment we’re running.
Let me stop here and continue tomorrow.
