An awareness writer writes about what’s right there in front of them – if they can.

In an era in which bots can bury a figure, as we witnessed with Tucker the other week, there are things that are better not said. I should have added: “an age when AI can search the web and feed back reams of information instantly” for the bots to throw at the victim.

This next share is right on the borderline. I may regret it later when it’s thrown back in my face as bragging, or self-fixation, or whatever. But it’s my job to share – as much as I can.

It happened in the writing of the article, “Justice in Society Requires Honesty in the Individual,” (1) when I said:

“I want that honest judiciary back.” (2)

In that moment, my whole being arose behind that statement. I had a personal stake in it because I had served as a refugee decision-maker.

I felt outraged at that moment by what seems to have happened to the judiciary in the last twenty years. And I did what I’ve described in a separate book: In that moment of outrage, I emerged. (3)

It was like walking out of a bubble. On the other side, all the worries, fears, concerns, issues, and whatever else I feel when I approach an article was just not there any more. Just gone. Nothing taking its place.

At that moment I became willing to enter the context of “writing to the world.” Not just folks like me, but everyone. That was a big breakthrough for me.

I want to mention one prior event that prepared me for this possibility. A few years back, after years and years of searching for what I would call a “cultural universal,” I found it.

What knowledge is shared by everyone on the planet? What does everyone recognize and respond to?

It’s the divine qualities. (4) Everyone recognizes a smile and responds in their own way. Everyone recognizes courage and admires it when they see it. Everyone melts before compassion and may even shed tears.

My survey is accurate to +/- a billion.

Now connect the two dots. I know what the cultural universals are (the divine qualities) and they turn out to be the very qualities that attract me in the first place – hooray, hooray. Even the mere recognition of them advances a person spiritually, I’m willing to wager.

And I look back on all the stress I was carrying which just isn’t there any more (at this moment!).

I’m just here … minus that. And my heart still being open a smidge, I can still draw love up from it. Not enough to have me neglect my work, but enough to restore me.

And here comes peace. I’m experiencing it coming over me in the same way lethargy does, like a blanket. I allow it.

And my mind goes quiet.
