In my last reading with Archangel Michael through Linda Dillon, on Valentine’s Day, Feb. 14, 2019, he made a comment which is laden with meaning for me (I will be posting more from that reading).
“There is much discussion upon the planet of how you are mirrors to one another or how when you gaze in the eyes of the Mother or experience the upwelling of love, how that is the mirror of the essence of One.
“But what you do not always give as much consideration to, is how you (and I mean you individually and you collectively) are also the mirror for the Mother.” (1)
His comment thrilled me because of an event that happened to me on Feb. 13, 1987, a vision of the total journey of an individual soul from God to God. (2) It helped me to understand how we can be a mirror for the Mother.
It left me with the certain knowledge that the purpose of life for us was to become enlightened. But why? I’m sure the purpose of creating everything was manifold. But apparently the overarching reason was so that the One, to whom there is no second, could know itself. And how does that which fills all and is everything know Itself?
Evidently, in a moment of our enlightenment. Sri Ramakrishna explains: “It is the Godhead that has become these two [God and devotee] in order to enjoy Its bliss.” (3)
He humorously, pictured Siva’s delight upon realizing himself: “When Siva realizes his own Self, He dances about in joy exclaiming, ‘What am I! What am I!’” (4) When we realize our Self, Siva realizes Itself. Is that not like being a mirror? Siva realizes himself in a moment of our enlightenment?
Sri Ramakrishna’s statements imply what the purpose of life is from God’s perspective. But, here, the Council of Angels makes it explicit:
“How would I get to experience Myself if it were not for you?”
“Before you there was just Me. Before the Earth and all the planets and star systems and galaxies and universes there was just Me and only Me. I needed to create I needed to split apart and individuate so I could know Myself and see Myself and see all the wonders of creation. You are all ME!” (5)
God created life so that “I could know Myself and see Myself.”
Given these teachings of the sages, I can well imagine how we could be “the mirror for the Mother.”
But before we leave the subject, can we find anyone, anywhere, who describes the moment of God meeting God? Yes, we can.
Bayazid of Bistun, in one of my favorite quotes, gives voice to the individual’s experience at the moment that God meets God:
“I went from God to God, until they cried from me in me, ‘O thou I!’” (6)
A journey from duality to Unity. I wonder what would happen, in this time of rising energies, if one were to meditate on Bayzid’s utterance?
Apparently, the individual or jiva disappears after final and total mergence with God. All sense of individuality vanishes.
Sri Ramakrishna used to tell a story about a doll made of salt. It wanted to measure the Ocean, but it could not because, when it entered the Ocean, it dissolved. It disappeared. So where was the one who knew?
Another version is this same story of the wall, beyond which no one had been and returned to tell what they had seen. People would climb up on the wall. Their faces would shine. They’d jump down in ecstacy on the other side and never return. So who was there to tell the tale?
At the moment of our total enlightenment – way, way down the road – “we” are gone in the One. There’s no one to describe the Wordless, the Unknowable. No one returns.
Well, hold that one as speculation for the moment. Lately I’ve heard from the Company of Heaven that we do return from our time in union with the One; we re-emerge. That’s new knowledge for me. Stay tuned on that one.
The coming years may just show us that we’re only at a starting point in our spiritual understanding.
