Our thoughts are with the victims of this weather war. We know that many people were struck down or buried under mud and will never be found. My thoughts turn to the subject of how we might find comfort in such miserable news.
Do people caught in an unavoidable tragedy such as the hurricanes suffer in passing over? Is there any comfort to be provided to the distraught?
After I wrote this article, the Federation of Light, almost in answer to it, said:
Many lives are lost on a daily basis, yet, understand that there is no loss, for these Souls enter into an immediate release from the struggles they were having to endure.
Indeed, it is the ones left behind … the ones that must recall that they are the Strongest of the Strong, in order to remain so … and continue on in LOVELIGHT. (1) (My emphasis.)
I believe they’re referring to an immediate release after passing over. If they leave their bodies before death, then that release comes that much sooner.
Since I’d already written my article, I post it here.
The short answer is yes, there is comfort, and, no, on a balance of probabilities, it’s most likely that they didn’t suffer at the moment of death. Before that moment, perhaps yes, they will have suffered.
But, if it’s their time to transition, the process is not made long and drawn out. They’re usually removed from their body the moment the critical situation approaches. I’ve given instances of these removals in other articles. (2)
Being removed, we don’t suffer the agony of the body, as afterlife communicator John Scott explains:
“They do not suffer, these people, in their passing. I think sometimes their friends suffer more, when they see the body writhing in apparent agony, while in reality the spirit is already tasting the first freedom from pain, or lies in a blessed insensibility.” (3)
People may suffer before they die, but death itself does not involve suffering any more than opening our front door and leaving the house does. As has been said many times, death proves to be a release.
For those who haven’t studied life after death, here are a few travellers sharing how they felt at the moment of departing:
Julia Ames: With me the change [i.e., death] was perfectly painless. (4)
Gordon Burdick: I feel sure if people were to know that the actual moment of passing is not even noticeable, the fear of death that haunts so many people would vanish. (5)
Frederick Myers: Death is … a mere episode which we regard with a certain tenderness and not with any pain. … There is contained in it a time of stillness, of sinking gloriously into rest. (6)
The body may suffer but the spirit has departed.
Spirit Communicator Imperator: The mutilation of the body does not harm the spirit, except by the rude shock [of death]. And that would stir it into action rather than lull it into repose. (7)
Private Thomas Dowding: If there be shock, it is not the shock of physical death. Shock comes later when comprehension dawns: ‘Where is my body? Surely I am not dead!’ (8)
***
I can actually relate from my own experience why our commentators would say our passing may not even be noticeable.
When I was outside my body in 1977 and on another occasion when I was inside my body, aware and observing, I saw that I was not my body. And when I saw that – that my body was just an instrument – instantly any attachment to it vanished, along with any fear of death.
I’m not attached to a piece of luggage or even a car – not really. And, it turns out, I also emotionally detach from my body the minute I see it’s not me. (9)
That may have me fail to notice a painless death. After all, I remain unquestionably me. Why would I question the nature of the body I’m in? It’s such an elementary thing.
We tend to think of death as “the end,” whereas the folks on the Astral Plane regard it as the beginning. (10) Everything is joyful on the other side, first because only love reigns there, starting with at least the Higher Summerlands of the Astral Plane on up. Second all is joyful because we’ve come to our transitioned friends and family and what delight we’ll all feel at the reunion.
We who are left behind, battling hurricanes, are the ones who face the heavy lifting and the years of felt separation.

What I’ve just given you has been the classical account up till now. But now our sources say we’re all angelics and will return to our own domains after we’re through here. (11)
That turns the classical account on its head. I’m still assimilating the impact of that revelation.
It follows that, if we are all angelics, then our dearly departed may also be angelic. That holds with both my parents, apparently. If so, we can only imagine the splendor our departed ones are living in now.
No, on second thought, since we’ve had most of our memories erased at birth, (12) we probably can’t imagine the splendor they’re living in now.
Any families wondering where their relatives and friends have gone can consult New Maps of Heaven for a tour of the higher realms of the afterlife. (13) [New Maps of Heaven has experienced a glitch and is being repaired at the moment.]
That may not turn out to be where angelic relatives go (I don’t know), but it gives you at least a sense of the difference from the life lived here.

Here is the complete quote:
Each Soul who is experiencing devastation and loss and finding themselves ‘surviving’ under extreme conditions, is having to dig deep within to find the will to continue.
Yet, also, with such ease, they find their willingness to assist another wherever they can. In these places there is so little of ‘Woe is me’ and a great deal of ‘How can I help my neighbour’.
There are many Miracles that derive from such tragedy. Blessings, both large and small, that lift the Spirit under such dire conditions.
All over your Planet, Souls are suffering in one form or another.
THIS IS NOT HOW IT SHOULD BE.
Many lives are lost on a daily basis, yet, understand that there is no loss, for these Souls enter into an immediate release from the struggles they were having to endure.
Indeed, it is the ones left behind … [who are] the ones that must recall that they are the Strongest of the Strong, in order to remain so … and continue on in LOVELIGHT.

One incident I’ve never cited and have lost track of now was a class of schoolchildren and their teacher, caught in a school fire. They did not feel the flames. A spirit guide was sent to lead them out of the flames and to the etheric plane. He had to convince them that they were dead. They had no experience of the moment of death.
