UK government and military accused of war crimes cover-up
BBC.com, Nov. 17, 2019
The UK government and armed forces have been accused of covering up the killing of civilians by British troops in Afghanistan and Iraq.
An investigation by BBC Panorama and the Sunday Times has spoken to 11 British detectives who said they found credible evidence of war crimes.
Soldiers should have been prosecuted for the killings, say insiders.
The Ministry of Defence (MoD) said it rejected the unsubstantiated allegation of a pattern of cover-ups.
Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab told the BBC “all of the allegations, that had evidence, have been looked at”.
He said “the right balance” had been struck over decisions whether or not to investigate alleged war crimes.
The new evidence has come from inside the Iraq Historic Allegations Team (IHAT), which investigated alleged war crimes committed by British troops during the occupation of Iraq, and Operation Northmoor, which investigated alleged war crimes in Afghanistan. …
Exposed: Federal Intelligence Agencies Covered up ’80s Child Sex Cult
Ethan Huff, Stillness in the Storm, Nov. 17, 2019
The FBI Records Vault recently released a treasure trove of declassified documents about a 1980s sex cult known as “The Finders” – and the details are sure to shock you.
What we’ve already learned from these documents is that United States intelligence agencies like the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) covered up an epidemic of child sex abuse, ritual sacrifice, and other horrific crimes against humanity that were being propagated by The Finders.
Under the cover of darkness and deception, The Finders were abducting women, children, and other victims as part of “a large, well organized scheme,” it has been revealed. Further, the US intelligence apparatus was covering for it all, failing – or more accurately refusing – to go after the perpetrators in order to bring them to justice.
A preliminary investigation has uncovered that prosecution against The Finders was declined as far back as the year 1987, which is apparently around the time that the FBI was trying to keep it all under wraps. Despite searches of properties owned by The Finders turning up extensive evidence of criminal activities, including tunnel systems underneath a fake preschool, the FBI chose to pretend as though nothing bad was happening. …
Catholic Archdiocese of Vancouver aware of 36 cases of clergy sex abuse since 1950s, CBC learns
CBC.ca, Nov. 17, 2019
No Canadian Catholic diocese has ever released list of clergy credibly accused of sexual abuse
The Catholic Archdiocese of Vancouver was aware of 36 cases of abuse by clergy under its jurisdiction, including 26 involving children, results of an internal review of cases of clergy sexual abuse obtained by CBC’s The Fifth Estate show.
The review, commissioned in 2018 by Archbishop Michael Miller, examined church files dating back to the 1950s. No Catholic entity in this country has ever made this kind of information public before.
The Vancouver review also found three of their priests had fathered children. …
Some accused priests moved jurisdictions, and some went for treatment instead of being referred to police.
In some cases, victims were paid money and had to sign confidentiality agreements. The information shows that church officials often knew of credibly accused perpetrators and yet did not share that information with the community at large. …
