You can see that Sitting Bull mentioned the Divine Mother in his talk with Suzi Maresca. (1)
Many readers may see that and wonder who the chief is talking about. Who is this Divine Mother? (2)
Is she a figment of the imagination in the same way that … and with that, each person may list the various fantastic beings they regard as non-existent. Fairies, elementals, angels, elohim, etc. (None of them are of course non-existent!)
The distinction made between the Father (which Sitting Bull calls the “Great Spirit”) and the Mother in spirituality is a distinction made between God in his (her/its) formless Being and his Being with form. It’s also a distinction between stillness and movement, silence and sound.
Neither is the Father a male nor the Mother a female. No such distinctions as gender exist at those levels of Reality.
Yes, the distinction was made by patriarchal societies, but no better distinction exists at present. I welcome one being made.
And you can see that the Beings referred to use that distinction themselves. So we may have to wait for a more enlightened, gender-free distinction to be suggested.
God exists outside the illusion that we call the world. When God imagines itself entering into the dream or the illusion, when God moves and has a voice inside the illusion, the sages of old called that aspect of God’s Being the Mother.
God as the formless transcendental does not move in a material sense. Certainly bliss moves and love moves, but if an observer could be imagined existing in a material way in the Transcendental, no movement would be observed.
God the formless has no “voice” so the Mother is conceived of as “the Voice in the Silence” or “the Voice of one crying in the Wilderness.” The Father is that Wilderness in the sense that no law can bind that which is the source of law. The Father is therefore lawless or a wilderness.
Such ways as parables and paradoxes were probably used for a number of reasons. First, to fix enduring images in the minds of those who could not understand the realities being pointed at if they were simply described. But second to avoid those who wanted the masses kept ignorant and obedient from fixing on matters to criticize. As long as things were kept vague, it was felt that the safety of teachers was facilitated.
Other names for the Divine Mother are the Holy Spirit, Wisdom, Shakti, Aum/Amen, the Word of God, the primal creative vibration, and the universal energy.
The Father and the Mother are the same being. God is not only indivisible but all there is. There is nothing that anyone could conceive of that is not God, including you, the reader, and me. You are God. I am God. It could be no other way.
The purpose for which life was created is that you and I realize that we are God. When that realization occurs, God meets God in a moment of our enlightenment. And for that purpose was all of life made.
Nonetheless, most people benefit from having a form to worship to travel the road from ignorance of God to knowledge. All forms of God are the creations of the Mother.
The Mother can be conceived of as the being who raises the Child of God (we who possess the spark of God in our spiritual hearts) from ignorance to knowledge in the womb that is the world of matter (mater, Mother) before returning the Child to the Father, thereby making all things all in All.
