A marriage of truth and awareness
I’m an awareness writer and my job is to go up with everyone else and write about it.
Prior to changing my vote on pessimism vs optimism, (1) prior to the Factory Reset, (2) and prior to committing myself to a single spiritual precept (Do unto others), (3) I would feel grumpy about something and get mad at others.
Now, when I feel grumpy, I really get down on myself. I just noticed that difference this morning.
This morning I awoke feeling just generally grumpy. I think it was an assortment of things. But, feeling grumpy, I felt very critical of myself. And we don’t usually do that (introject). We usually blame it on others (project). Or wait for an excuse and blow up – and then blame it on others.
I noticed as well that I haven’t yet fully taken back my power, my sovereignty, my free will after the seven year old’s trauma. (4)
After years of existing within a small operational circle, I’m still, at eighty years old, recovering my personal sovereignty bit by bit.
I can’t see forward what needs to be done. I can only see it clearly and say, “Oh yah,” in hindsight. Then it all seems obvious. Viewed forward it’s the big cloud of unknowing (“What is wrong with me?”) whose knowledge is so often only won through suffering.
Or the practise of awareness – plain, bare, and open.
Awareness is not neutral. It dissolves. (5) You’ve heard the saying, the truth will set you free? That saying is true. Once the truth of a situation comes into our awareness, as in a realization or breakthrough, two things happen: (1) The key of the truth fits the lock and unlocks the puzzle (what happened to me to make me the way I am?) and (2) the dissolving impact of awareness sets us free from any remaining grip of the issue, upset, or attitude.
We can see this everyday with ourselves: No pain lasts forever, unless we resist it. What we resist, Werner Erhard said, persists. So we don’t resist, but simply abide in dissolving awareness.
We store all our lies in memory and many of our resolves take on a kind of “muscle memory” – patterned muscular tension in our bodies, such as backing up resistance with a gruff expression, making a fist, or drawing ourselves up and towering over an individual. The muscles remember how to react to the thought.
I’d like to alter the saying that the truth will set us free to awareness of the truth will set us free. It’s a marriage in consciousness between awareness and the truth.
The truth of what I’m eating (my morning peanut butter cookie [OK, three] dipped in coffee) will not set me free. Fine, fine, granular awareness of my eating it might.
As I’ve said earlier, love can carry us to the door of the Lord. Recognizing and merging with the Lord, as far as I know, is thereafter an act of awareness, discrimination, or knowledge.
Now we are Home. We have completed our mission. Contrary to everything I learned over the years, we will re-emerge from this divine med bed of Reunion a brilliant light and continue on with no eternal puzzle (“Who am I?) tugging at our heartsleeves. (6)
I’ve spent time in that love that will buoy us up and lead us on in the rest of our journey. (7) I still have very limited contact with it (my heart remains slightly open). Enough to keep me moving on irresistibly toward the final goal. (8)
Once you know what awaits us, the taste for so many other things pales.
All you want is more love.

You have to realize that consciousness is something very powerful. It is much more than a passive registering of an emotion – consciousness is an intense creative force.
Now imagine again that something in the outside world evokes a powerful emotion in you – for example, anger. When you deal with it consciously, you observe it fully in yourself. You do nothing about it, while at the same time you keep observing and watching.
You no longer identify with the anger, you do not lose yourself in it, you just allow the anger to be what it is. This is a state of detachment, but a detachment that takes great strength, because everything you have learned seduces you into being drawn into your moods, inside the emotion of anger or fear. And to make it more complicated, you also get drawn into judgment about that anger or fear.
