I stopped watching TV in 2008 at SaLuSa’s suggestion. I don’t read newspapers. But that has its downside. I lose touch with what the deep state is actually saying, never mind what our side in this conflict reports them as saying.
There’s a fine line between journalism and propaganda and, during times of conflict, it’s very difficult to resist the trend on all sides to cross it.
I found myself on a mainstream-media story blasting RFK Jr and Dr. Oz for supporting Ivermectin (77 cents a pill) and Hydroxychlorquine (“bleach”) as Covid cures. I’m not going to name the online newspaper. I intuit that I’m not intended to descend that deeply into the trenches.
What struck me immediately was how they were following the deep-state playbook:
- Be angry, indignant, self-righteous.
- Ridicule, blame, shame.
- Look for “ethical lapses.”
- Bombard the reader with opposing medical reviews.
- Question credentials, expertise, fitness to recommend.
- Link to “past transgressions” of Trump admin.
- Cast doubt on Trump admin’s ability to govern.
They may as well have ticked off the boxes.
It’s easy to see how the opposition operates; not so easy to see how we ourselves operate. We also express anger and indignation, ridicule, look for “ethical lapses,” etc. But, self-servingly, we don’t often look at that. (1)
That’s too bad. The growth movement did look at it. It took the focus of attention off the outside world and placed it squarely on one’s own self. After all, it’s my journey from God to God. Yours is yours.
I thereafter minded my own business, not another’s. I let another “do them” and they let me “do me.” Etc.
But it allowed the deep-state press to ridicule us as “the Me Generation.” Navel gazers. [Insubstantial] flower children. Totally missed the point. (Remember the purpose of life?) (2)
Not only is it possible to shift the focus from the other to oneself but life improves greatly thereafter. Every realization we have about ourselves releases us from one more link in our chain-mail suit of character armor. We breathe easier, feel more love.
That is evolution, rather than devolution into blaming, shaming, conflict, and more armor.
