I’m not a conservative, although, as an historian, I do respect conservative values or I wouldn’t have chosen that line of work.
I’m also not a liberal as that term is currently being used.
I’m a centrist by political philosophy and a reformer by political action. Improvement, abandonment of what doesn’t work, innovation.
And what is all that founded upon?
I hung out on the extremes for a long time in my life. I was an angry young man because of my treatment in the family. (1)
But I found there to be too many spills on the extremes, too much to clean up, too much residue, which often led to the next conflict.
There was no such botheration in the center.
Since then, as you know, I’ve journeyed to my heart and through the heart door, down, down into it until I reached a dead end – far from “dead” – the “bottom of my heart,” “the seat of my soul.”
And there shone the Self. (2)
So nobody could ever sell me on abandoning the center. Since the Self is love, and higher-dimensional love turns out to be everything we ever wished for – completely satisfying – I can say with some certainty that all good things are to be found in the center.
It’s neither the best time to be a conservative – because our only promised condition right now is constant change – nor a liberal, as we presently use that term. Since everything dark, as “liberalism” has become associated with, is coming down, I can say that safety lies in the center, in the heart, in the experience of its love.
It used to be that “liberal” and “reformer” were synonymous. Now, “liberal” is a term of derision for a left-leaning radical or extremist. Now, if we want to find the same birds I used to hang out with, I’d have to look in the center, among those who identify themselves as reformers.
It used to be that middle-class and upper-class “liberals” were the voice of politics. Now it’s the people who were or felt they were “left out.”
In a sense, if we can subtract the criminality from what’s currently happening in the world, what’s left over is the “left out” wanting to be “let in” to the world’s circle of wellness and adequacy.
And what are we reformers reforming? Just the entire way of being we have with each other, the planet, the animals, and everything else we live with.
Just our attitudes towards each other, work, religion, science, etc.
Just our beliefs about life, its purpose, how to achieve that purpose, etc.
Just our way of life from stem to stern. Bolstered, buoyed up – with the Wave of Love and, later, Ascension – (3) by the most wonderful ambrosia, aqua vitae – love. As a flower blossoms in the presence of the Sun, so will we blossom in the presence of the Sun of that love.
I breathe it up from my heart … and all is well again. I forget whatever it is that’s bothering me. I’m bathed in love and “restored to Self again.”

(1) My Dad, just back from World War 2 where he worked in the merchant marine as a fireman, was a violent man. I thank him now because he awakened the determination of the warrior in me.
