So…today has turned out to be different than what our plan was.
Good Contractor spent 40 minutes this morning explaining to us what a nightmare the previous electrician had created in the house behind closed-up and painted drywall. Further, that when they turn the water on tomorrow, we’re hoping that the plumber hired by the dreadful and dishonest Original Contractor did a better job than the electrician did. Praying for no leaks and good craftsmanship.
We can’t go home yet, but the appraisal for the re-fi will, indeed, go forward tomorrow. We have another expensive week in this condo…but we can stay here. It’s interesting, because we were literally ready to bug out when GC called with today’s hiccup.
Once appraisal happens, though, the re-fi can move forward and we’ll be able to finish up with that funding. Countertops went in today, and honestly, what we chose for them makes our hearts sing. We’ve only seen pictures so far, but I’ll want to lay my body down on the natural artistry of them…on their ancient surfaces. Stones that were forged deep inside the Earth, carefully excavated and divided into exquisite slices.
I’m so enchanted by them that I had to find where on Earth they’re from, and how they got to be so amazing. And please don’t judge us for making these things a priority. They feel like a grounding anchor for us…like the core of our home, if that makes any sense. These and our black windows are important to us…more important than filling the house with furniture right away.
Anyway, our house is having multiple holes cut into the new walls to fix all the bad wiring now. GC is stressing out about getting us back in there, but new issues pop up all the time that need addressing before any inspector comes to give a temporary C.O.
So there you have it. An involuntary new chapter has been added to the continuing saga of our time out in the field of bad dreams. On the positive side, though, we’ll have more time to cozy it up in the sanctuary upstairs.
Yo and I are really looking for some kind of collective benefit that might come from our extended fire walk. We’re clear on the purpose of the fire itself, for the most part. What isn’t clear is why we were directed towards hiring such a truly terrible guy to rebuild. If we knew then what we know now, we would have found the GC right away and been in the house before a year passed.
Maybe if I write a book about it, it could help other victims of this kind of disaster to avoid hiring unscrupulous contractors. If you read this post and you get some kind of hit about the why, please do write into our Contact Us and share your thoughts, if you will.
