It’s hard to imagine a more demoralizing event, and there isn’t actually much doubt that such was part of the reason for setting this in motion. Charlie Kirk was struck by an assassin’s bullet at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah today, he was 31.
“No one could dismantle a smug liberal argument quicker than Charlie.”
He was one of the most popular people in conservative media, and he was assassinated in broad daylight from 200 yards away just after he started his presentation. Of course, there’s video of Charlie at his event being shot in the neck, and it’s awful to see. I wish I hadn’t.
In any case, this adds quite a lot of energy to the already volatile soup we’re in. Outrage, grief, horror…it’s all being generated and enhanced now when we’re so close to breaking free en masse. Whatever else unfolds in the wake of this tragedy, somehow we need to find our center and keep breathing.
This is a stark reminder that we’re at war…willing participants or not.
