Grok: A telomere is a repetitive DNA sequence at the ends of chromosomes that protects them from damage and degradation, much like the plastic tips on shoelaces. They shorten with each cell division, and when they become too short, the cell can no longer divide, leading to aging or cell death. Telomeres play a key role in maintaining genomic stability and are linked to aging and diseases like cancer.
