I have decided that trying to manage time is like trying to manage the wind.
It is unpredictable and always changing. One minute you got it; the next minute it’s gone.
When it’s there, it helps build stronger stems, grow bigger roots and justifies stronger foundations. All the reasons one needs to fortify for the future. Staying strong in a stiff wind. The ease of planning is fulfilled with plenty of time to do it.
When there is no wind there is nothing to brace against. When there is no time, one is left to surrender.
It is the ability to go with the flow that reminds me of how to manage them both.
When a windchime sits quiet, it sits in a knowing that it’s time will come.
There will be a sway, a song in the future. At some point the wind chime will ring.
And when it does the song will resonate and make use of an otherwise unpredictable event.
A windchime’s very existence thus makes the wind predictable.
Time is going to come and it’s going to pass. This is the predictability of it.
And this too will pass, we say.
Prediction of the passing of time we manage ourselves within that unpredictability.
Got something pressing? Need to make arrangements? Planning is not going well? Don’t worry.
Soon it will be over and no longer relevant.
Time doesn’t stop and the wind will always blow.
Live in the moment and grasp at what you can.
But when you open your fist, the wind will be gone and the moment will be past.
