I drove by a billboard that actually said something I admired.
It said, ” The trees are getting ready to show us how to let go”.Take a minute and let that seep into your being.
Is that ever a sign of the times?
Even considering it is the fall season here.
Someone said to me the other day that one of the most important telltale questions one could answer would be, Who is your spiritual icon?
This question intrigued me in that I refuse to idolize any entity.
But who or what is the focus of my drive?
I sorted and discarded all of the normal reactions that I could think of.
Jesus is not my idol or icon. He is my brother and we walk together.
Buddha is wise as he knows my trials and tribulations. They were once his.
Quan yin. Well, she is the best sister one could have. The dragon rides are spectacular.
Mary, You know you are included.
But clearly there must be an answer.
And then I dropped into my heart and the answer was so overwhelmingly obvious.
Gaia. It is Gaia.
It has always been Gaia.
She is my true love.
She brings me to my knees with awe and complete reverence.
Embedded within Gaia is the life force of all life.
Within Gaia is life as I know it. Life that I don’t understand.
Life from all that is, is her light, her essence, her being.
She encompasses every moment of my being.
She is my inspiration to rise at dawn and to sleep soundly in the dark.
All of the mysteries to explore and the answers I seek, the questions I find, are under her skies.
She presents change and brings stability. She is my security.
Life, death, birth and renewal, water, rocks and dirt, plant, animal, mineral.
Every breath I take.
They are all a part of her.
Her love, gentle or tough, is felt in every cell of my being.
She is the mother of all.
Without her I would not know this world.
There is no separation.
I could look beyond this planet for the answers to life.
But why should I?
The answers are here in me. And I am here on Gaia.
She is with me and I am with her.
We are one.
I can feel her in the wind.
I can feel her in the water.
Every step in the dust as it covers my boots.
Every track in the mud as it sticks to my sole.
This is what it is like to be on planet.
This is what it is like to have gratitude for life.
I am in love. In complete reverence.
Let this moment last forever.
And yet the depth of my love may only be a scratch on the surface.
My Gaia,
You have done well raising your children.
Preparing us for the spiritual life must not be an easy task.
We are ignorant in your realm.
And yet you show patience and persist.
You provide us with all the answers to all the questions even when we forget to ask.
Your sacrifice we may never know or fully understand.
Your love is powerful and beyond measure.
Someday may I be blessed to know and feel this love that you hold for us.
