2 – 30 minute podcasts for novices, sceptics and enthusiasts to explore the wonders of Basic Income.
How to overcome poverty and inequality one episode at a time.
Some of the discussion points in the first podcast:
- the natural resources of this planet are for all the people but many have been excluded from that wealth
- Basic Income is so everyone can live and feel secure — for many that’s been taken away — everyone should be given their share of a country’s resources, paid a dividend as a result of having little access to resources
- as basic security grows the mental bandwidth to be rational (be self-Love and self-worth) increases
- take security away and mental capacities decline
- Basic Income is a just (fair) way to create security and the freedom, ability to make choices — “right choices” — from “control over”
- reduces poverty, enables children to stay in school, improves behaviour
- would de-stress many as there would be a constant level of cortisol in the body
- stress has detrimental effects on immune system and the ability to make fundamental decisions in daily life
- ability to work collectively increases – to make more informed choices, to look forward and plan from a secure foundation, a predictable solid economic floor
- give Basic Income to rich and poor, fair and just way to do it — no separation — and then tax the wealthy more than they are at the moment to recoup the cost
- Basic Income energizes everyone and creates the space for entrepreneurial risk-taking
- offer everyone basic support so we uplift everyone
- criticism of those in poverty helps keep poverty in place
- 60-84% of all wealth is inherited wealth in the UK – and they still go out and work – work is something we like to do, so a Basic Income doesn’t mean people will sit on the couch and do nothing
- Basic Income gives basic security, freedom, decreases stress, improves health, and if it replaced credit, it would give us all dignity
