Most of us are well aware of the agenda to kill off entire chunks of population, (1) so it may not be a complete shock that such things even happen on our planet.
However, as we are compassionate beings by nature, it’s literally not possible to be immune to feeling for all those affected by the devastating fires. We wish to help by sharing information for our California readers.
A great many animals have been displaced by this awfulness, and we’re posting resources to organizations dedicated to helping care for and shelter them so they can be reunited with the folks who love them.

We are providing disaster Medicine in shelter medicine for the Animal Victims of the Camp Fire. We have over 500 animals at the Del Oro shelter and over 800 animals at the Chico Airport shelter. In addition there are between 40 and 80 animals at each of four different human evacuation shelters that we are providing care for.
We are treating a lot of burned cats and every other variety of veterinary problem made more challenging by having so many animals crowded together. We had a team of 35 veterinarians and vet nurses each day and everyone works from dawn till dark.

On Wednesday we transferred 29 animals from the Camp Fire area to the SF SPCA. Their injuries range from mild to severe burns, and they’re receiving treatment at our hospital. What is valley fever?
Valley fever, or coccidioidomycosis, is an infection caused by a fungus. You can get the infection if you breathe in the fungus germs. The germs are found in soil and dust that has been stirred up by fires and other causes.
What are the signs and symptoms of valley fever?
You may develop the following flu-like symptoms 1 to 4 weeks after you breathe in the fungus:
• Cough or trouble breathing
• Fever, chills, or night sweats
• Chest, joint, or muscle pain
• Tiredness or headache
• A rash (this is a clear indicator that you have Valley Fever)
• Tender, swollen, red lumps on your legs
• Loss of appetite or weight loss
I hate to tell you this but most doctors misdiagnose Valley Fever. It is often diagnosed as phenomena or bronchitis. If you think you might have take control of your health and demand a blood test and chest x-ray. Do not wait, as it can be deadly.
• Blood tests may show the fungus that causes valley fever. Ask for this specific test it looks for Coccidioides antibodies or antigens
• A sample from your throat or the inside of your nose may be needed. You may need to cough mucus into a cup.
• An x-ray may show signs of infection, such as swelling and fluid around your lungs or a fungus ball in the lungs
• A lung biopsy may be done to test for signs of a fungal infection. Lung tissue is removed and sent to a lab for tests.
