Here is the full text of The Free World Charter. Please read it carefully and check the box beside each principle if you agree with it. Once you’re done just fill in your name, email and country and click ‘sign’.

You will notice the Charter is not very long. In fact, just ten basic principles make up The Free World Charter. While the reasons and implications of the Charter are complex, the actual principles themselves are very simple.

Each principle is terse in language to maintain unambiguity, but each one is accompanied underneath by a ‘friendly’ text version and brief explanation of why it’s needed. If you find any reason to disagree with what’s here, please interact with us through our Criticism page.

Preamble

In this year, 2011, our personal freedoms, environment and biodiversity have become critically endangered by our mismanagement of global resources.

This charter document proposes ten fundamental principles on which to grow an entirely new world society based on fairness, common sense and survival. Once adopted, these principles will realise human equality, minimise suffering and injustice, accelerate progress and technology, and guarantee a healthy, diverse and sustainable world for future generations.

Principles

1 The highest concern of humanity is the Combined Common Good of the human community, the biosphere and its biodiversity.

Human beings are the most advanced species on this planet – by a long way. This brings us great freedom, but also great responsibility. We are now, in effect, custodians of the world, its lifeforms and its beauty.

Our world is an enclosed system and every lifeform on it is connected. Our technical capability and population numbers now mean we have a significant physical impact on the world, and we must remember that every change we make has a tangible effect to the fine balance of life that we all depend on to live.

This means, for our survival, that we must now accept the Combined Common Good of humans, animals, plants and our planet as the highest single ‘authority’ which we all must serve and respect – and not just ourselves. Working against this Combined Common Good is ultimately detrimental to our own survival.

2 Life, in all its forms, is rare, precious and free to flourish within the Combined Common Good.

Life is an amazing phenomenon, and as far as we know, our planet is the only place on which to find it. For that reason alone it should be cherished. But life is also food, and all living things are part of a large, highly-complex food-chain.

Humanity’s management of other species through farming, artificial selection, culling or displacement through development of infrastructure can do irreparable damage to this food-chain, endangering or wiping out entire species at a stroke.

To retain biodiversity on our planet, the needs of the Combined Common Good must always be met before the needs of individuals or individual species.

3Every person is an equal citizen of the human community, without label, stigma or privilege.

Divisions between people such as nationality, social status, ideology and beliefs are man-made, and have proven time and time again to be counter-productive to our mutual progress and survival. Any group of people that despises another due to abstract ideology, or restricts others’ access to vital resources or knowledge for any reason is working against the Combined Common Good and ultimately our survival.

Such segregating human behaviour stems from early tribal days when both vital resources and our understanding of the world were limited, neither of which is now the case.

This principle also affords every person an equal opportunity to contribute to the community regardless of race, culture or language.

4 Every person has access to all the requirements of a healthy, sustainable and fulfilling life; freely and without subordination, debt or obligation.

This guarantees every person the highest technically possible standard of living without the need for money, trade or debt. There is no longer any logical reason not to do this.

All forms of human debt subordination are now unnecessary, due to our command of technology and the ease with which we can produce and manufacture goods for ourselves.

5 All energy and resources at our disposal are the common ownership of all people, and are allocated according to the needs of the Combined Common Good.

This does away with the traditional concepts of ownership and property. Without money or trade, these are no longer relevant. Everyone will have unrestricted access to the goods or utilities they require, providing it is technically possible, and within the Combined Common Good.

This does not mean people will lose their existing property. Any decision taken in the interest of the Combined Common Good to determine how to allocate residential property (for example), will always logically favour the existing residents. (The transistion from our old system to the new one is a complex process that will be covered in a later document as part of this initiative)

The individual control of limited natural resources for personal gain must now be relegated to the past as it is counter-productive to the community as a whole.

6 Every person accepts that global resources are limited, and the necessity for minimal consumption and waste.

Our resources are limited either by absolute quantity or by the time it takes to manage and replace them.

Non-renewable resources, such as minerals and metals, should be used wisely to preserve their supply as long as possible, or replicated by other means. Renewable resources such as timber and water need pro-active management and time to ensure continuity of supply.

In addition to this, we must also minimise the amount of waste that we produce as it causes damage to the environment. This includes all household, manufacturing and organic waste. Some materials take hundreds of years to decompose, or poison the environment during decomposition.

The more we conserve our World, the greater our chances of survival into the far future.

7 Every person acknowledges that they are a single part of a single community, which relies on all its members equally for survival and progress.

We are a single community. All our actions affect each other. Postive actions breed positivity, progress and survival, while negative actions do the opposite.

Much of the negativity in the World today is brought about by our monetary system that promotes competition between people. We can eradicate this almost overnight once we decide to remove money from our lives.

The remainder of negative human behaviour is brought about mainly through secondary by-products of the monetary system, such as isolation, miseducation, parental stress, lack of proper healthcare etc. A money-free society can correct these ills and stimulate positivity and cooperation between people as a community.

8 We acknowledge the efficacy and impartiality of the scientific method and its application as our primary means of problem-solving.

The biggest challenges facing humanity today are technical ones: How do we feed everyone? How do we manage water supply? Where do we get energy from? How do we ensure a high standard of living for everyone and maintain sustainability? How do we provide education and healthcare effectively? These are all technical and logistical problems.

The ‘scientific method’ is a provable, robust system of solving technical problems using only basic logic and the available facts. It also has a commonality and equal reference across all cultures and languages. For these reasons, it is the best option for deriving solutions that improve our quality of life.

Science is, of course, only part of the tapestry of human existence. Other areas of human experience such as morality, philosophy, love, art, inspiration, aspiration are what make us unique and give life its zest and flavour. These are all inseparable parts of being human, and can only be further enhanced by advocating science to look after the day to day running of the planet.

To dream a world of freedom, cooperation, peace and progress is human, but to build it requires science and technology.

9 We recognise the necessity of a relevant education for our children, and our duty of care to community members unable to contribute or sustain themselves.

As future valuable contributors to the community, it is vital that we impart as much of our knowledge as we can to our children, in a way that stimulates their creativity, growth and intellect towards future progress.

Also, people who are unable to look after themselves or contribute back into society for any reason, should enjoy every possible amenity, compassion and care from the rest of the community without obligation.

10 Every person accepts our collective responsibility to persons yet unborn, and to maintain a diverse and sustainable biosphere for future generations to enjoy.

We must remember that we share our planet not just with other people, animals and plants, but also with the seeds of future people, animals and plants, who will walk and grow here some day.

It is in the interest of all species, and frankly good manners, for us to leave the world to future generations just as we found it, if not better.
