I believe that the most threatening thing for most people is the fear of death.
I was allowed an experience in 1977 which took away that fear. I had an out-of-body experience, a lucid dream in which I awoke on the other side.
Some boys were being mean to a friend of mine, Peter Kendell (not bad remembering for a guy who has literally no short-term memory, huh?). I was shouting at them to leave my friend alone but they couldn’t hear me.
Suddenly I began falling backwards at a lightning pace (1) and felt myself entering into a tube that had the consistency of India rubber. I said to myself, “what’s this?” And back came the thought “My body.”
OMG, I said to myself. I am not my body!
I’ve been making a mistake all these years by thinking I am my body. I wouldn’t say “I am my shoes.” But I blithely say, “I am my body.”
And I am not. I am wearing my body as one would a suit of armor.
And, as for leaving and entering it, what’s the fuss? You just up and leave and re-enter. Where’s the mystery?
I used to tell a story to illustrate how fast the fear of death can leave us when we realize we’re not our body.
Imagine you’re standing on the back patio at night. There’s a small light on. Nothing is moving. And then suddenly the grass at the far end of the yard begins moving. OMG. It’s an animal. I’m going to get bitten! I’m going to die! What do I do?
And then the animal emerges and … it’s Kitty! Oh, Kitty, you scared me to …well, out of my wits! I thought you were going to bite me.
And the same with death. “O Death, you scared me so much. I thought you’d be [the end, painful, scarey, etc.].” And we find, afterwards, that death was not painful. Or so the many afterlife-communicators cited in New Maps of Heaven tell us. (2)
And one more bit of good news. If you’re about to be hit by a semi-trailer travelling in the wrong lane, our guides on the other side will lift us from the body seconds before disaster, as the TV show goes. There is no need for beings who are ascending this lifetime to go through a miserable death. (3) Far from it.
And then! And then … we enter a world – an astral world – in which there is no pain, no disease, no old age, no hunger, no thirst, and endless psychic powers like telepathy, mind travel, manifestation. This is not Ascension, but a step away. What’s not to like?
Will the suicide rate go up knowing these things? Actually I’d expect it to go down. Because being free of the fear of death itself releases parts of ourself that assist us to be free of depression.
And then … and then … we discover that life has a purpose……… (4)
Footnotes
(1) If we cannot tolerate the vibrations of one astral level, we must fall back to a lower level. Outside the body, I fell back to the next lower level; namely, the physical. I returned to my body, to which, I’m told I’m always connected by a silver cord.

(4) I wouldn’t think of leaving anyone hanging: The purpose of life, as I see it, is to know who we truly are. Who we truly are is God. Everything is God. And when one of us realizes our identity, God meets God. And for that meeting was all of this created.
All of life aligns with that purpose in one way or another. See The Purpose of Life is Enlightenment at https://goldenageofgaia.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/Purpose-of-Life-is-Enlightenment-6.pdf
