To anyone who says they wasted their life on something, I offer my own case in point. From the point where my father yelled at me from inches in front of my face at around age 7 and I shattered until I came back to being normal (not dissociated) at age 58, well, that’s 51 years.
And I’m still dealing with leftover effects. The dropping of my character armor meant a huge amount to me – the one who built it, piece by piece, over those 51 years. (1)
When my mission finally started in 2008, when my friend Len mentioned Ascension and I began a website on it (First Contact; badly in need of an update and redesign), I too asked myself why I needed to wait so long before starting in. Starting in at age 58? Maybe that makes sense somehow, in some religion, but unknown to me.
If we remember that we live life eternally, before birth and after death, then it doesn’t matter as much that my “return to normalcy” happened at age 58 and continued to improve afterwards. It happened when it did in the continuum I call “my life.”
Let me switch now to the more general and look for a moment at the more general process at play here.
In all the writings I’ve done on this process, I called this process of self-actualization one of “emergence.” (2) In the particular instance of an issue or upset, there are four means I know of to transcend or emerge from it:
- Push
- Pull
- Be with
- Invoke the universal law
Let me elaborate.
“Push” is what I’ve been doing. Pushing myself to go further, to observe a universal guideline, “Do unto others,” declaring myself, sharing my own journey, courting breakthrough and emergence.
“Pull” is what I do internally in sending love to the Mother, yearning for the love of the higher dimensions, or resting in the little bit of transformative love and bliss that arises from my heart, where it lives.
“Being with” is the practice of awareness itself. Rather than messing with what’s coming my way, I remain aware and refrain from acting.
Matthew Ward calls it “observing.” (3) Werner Erhard calls it “conscious awareness.” Krishnamurti, “passive awareness.” Simply being and remaining aware causes any upset or issue to lift eventually, without our getting annoyed and reinforcing it. What we resist persists. What we feel heals.
“Invoking the universal law” could be invoking the Law of Transformation to transform any harmful ingredients in the food I’m eating into beneficial ingredients, invoking the Law of Attraction to bring ascension to me sooner rather than later, or asking Michael’s help with something complicated or beyond my means, (4) by the Laws of Sacred Purpose and Intention.
That is like my kit that I carry around so that I’m prepared for … well, not an infinite continuance of this “Time of Separation,” but an extended operation.

(3) By observing the ongoing drama of this process but not being drawn into it, you are further empowering yourselves, the peoples, and all other light beings in this universe. (Matthew’s Message, Sept. 1, 2022, at https://matthewbooks.com.)
(4) Like lifting two heavy concrete blocks and placing them in the dumpster. After me calling on Michael for help, they both became weightless.
