He put his heart and soul into it
I’d been invited to a barbeque across in the park. And I didn’t go. I was invited to a meet-up. And I asked to be excused. And I wondered why was I sequestering myself?
I noticed that I cannot stand ordinary conversation any more and want to get away as soon as possible.
And I asked myself, what’s going on with me?
And I heard an inner voice say, “You’ve given your soul to the world.”
And I thought, how can one give one’s soul to the world? The soul is not ours to give away. And so I rested in awareness, opening to the idea and allowing the answer to arise.
What I got was that there is more than one meaning to the word “soul.” The first is the meaning that we all share -“a fragment of the One, seemingly individuated but always one with the One, which is everything.”
But there’s a second meaning, as in “heart and soul.” When it’s said you put your soul into it, it usually means you’ve given it everything ya got.
That is the sense in which I mean it. And I don’t mean it as bragging. It’s literally true. And it’s very much a choice I’ve made.
I guess a synonym would be he’s married to his work. I am.
It requires me to stay aware of the baseline of events, foreswear holidays, avoid distracting conversations, etc. And avoid the trap of pretending I know more than I do. When I don’t.
When the vision of the purpose of life on Feb. 13, 1987 closed down, I remember saying to myself, “I now know one thing.” (1)
One thing. When my heart opened on March 13, 2015, I now knew what love is. I now knew two things…. (2)
