She had been on the path for years and we chatted for quite a while before my next client arrived.
Towards the end of our conversation she mentioned she was sleeping in her car.
She had sold all her belongings, come west across Canada, and was on her way up north to attend an event.
Did she have anywhere to stay? No.
In the past I have slept in my car. It is not comfortable.
I offered her a bed, a shower, tea, food. It was the least I could do.
We have a whole population of people sleeping in their cars . . . The young person I met is technically homeless . . . She said she has no home to go to after the event.
This is the most recent newsletter I received from Community Solutions:
When I am feeling stuck or uncertain about what comes next in the work to make homelessness rare and brief, I am quick to find hope and inspiration from the people who support our work.
We recently asked some of Community Solutions’ longtime supporters why this work is important to them:
I, too, believe we have the capacity to reduce homelessness.
I see signs of progress across the nation — from Denver to Atlanta to Abilene.
