Notes:
The Speaker begins with a well deserved acknowledgment for yesterday’s Peace Agreement.
More to the point, two weeks into a stand-off over spending demands that are seriously way over the top, Mike finally gets to explaining exactly what the democrats under Chuck Schumer are holding the paychecks of approximately 1.4 million American citizens hostage for.
- They want to keep the people who came here illegally eligible to continue receiving health care, costing taxpayers nearly two hundred Billion dollars.
- They want to remove a work requirement for able bodied, young men, allowing them to continue to receive the benefits meant for the elderly, disabled and vulnerable.
- They would remove the fifty billion dollars in the bill intended to support rural hospitals.
- They would send a half a billion dollars to liberal news outlets.
- They’ve built into their counter-proposal five billion dollars more for wasteful spending on international projects, the kind of things that DOGE rightfully axed. Think 24.6M for climate resilience in Honduras. There’s so much more of that kind of silliness…
“We are not doing that. These are unserious proposals from unserious people, and they’re playing games while real Americans are being harmed adversely by the shutdown.”
Speaker Johnson goes on to explain why Chuck is cleaving so hard to his position, and it’s all about appeasing his radical base to try to maintain power. The entire country is on hold to humor Schumer? The man has supported CRs to keep the government running 29 out of 30 times in the past.
This is not the way the founding fathers intended the process to work. Continuing Resolutions to keep the government running until agreements are ironed out was supposed to be temporary. Lately, it’s just been the status quo.

And all of that’s been said by just past nine minutes into the announcement. I’m still watching…
