I Wonder….

I’m watching my mind at work…. (1)

“I can add another experience,” it says, ” to those which I know as consciousness states. To the list of divine qualities – love, bliss, ecstasy, mastery, abundance, and peace – that I’ve felt and that are now known to me and able to be (slightly) activated if I so choose, I can now add another one.”

But this one is not uplifting. It’s more protective and I’ve let its value go unremarked upon.

This consciousness state I call lethargy. Hindus call it thamas. It’s the equivalent of the delete button and, as such, our ever-willing servant.

When I want to forget about something, I blanket it with lethargy and all memory of it for the moment vanishes.

When I want to let go of something, I blanket it with lethargy and all emotional content is obliterated. Now letting go of it causes no upset. The upset is revealed as an unwillingness to remember unpleasant feelings – yes, an unwillingness to re-experience my vasana or core issue. (2)

I’ve been practising blanketting my consciousness with lethargy when I want to go to sleep. Should work. We’ll see.

OK, that’s lethargy, which is revealed as a willing genie, ever at my beck and call.

Do I have other mechanisms I can trigger and call upon to help me in my mission, mechanisms I’ve blanketed with lethargy until now?

I wonder….
