Secret Service Faulted for Trump Assassination Attempt, Senate Report Finds
‘Despite those failures, no one has been fired. And we only know what little discipline was handed out because I issued a subpoena,’ the committee chair said.

The Senate released a report on July 13 detailing the critical missteps that allowed a gunman to climb a building and open fire on President Donald Trump during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, last year, and faulted the Secret Service for its discipline and “pattern of denials, mismanagement, and missed warning signs.”
The report, released by Sen. Rand Paul (R-K.Y.), chairman of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, investigated the events leading up to and after July 13, 2024, when a 20-year-old gunman climbed onto the roof of the American Glass Research building during a Trump campaign rally at the Butler Farm Show and opened fire on Trump, who was running for president at the time.
The man fired eight shots and struck four people, including Trump. One of the rallygoers, former fire chief Corey Comperatore, died while shielding his family from the bullets. Two others were injured but survived.
“This was not a single error. It was a cascade of preventable failures that nearly cost President Trump his life,” the report states.
The report culminated from a yearlong bipartisan investigation that conducted 17 transcribed interviews with Secret Service personnel and reviewed more than 75,000 pages of documents from federal, state, and local law enforcement entities.
The Secret Service’s “disturbing pattern of communication failures and negligence” was faulted for the shooting, according to the report.
For example, the failed assassin was able to evade detection by Secret Service personnel for 45 minutes, despite civilians reporting his presence on the building rooftop to Secret Service 25 minutes before he fired any shots.
The Secret Service was also faulted for denying multiple requests for additional staff, assets, and resources to protect Trump during his campaign.
The agency did not fire anyone involved in the planning and execution of the Butler rally, the report states, highlighting that only six personnel were formally disciplined, and as recently as this month.
The report also criticized former Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle for falsely telling Congress that no asset requests were denied for the Butler rally by the Secret Service, and faulted the agency for giving agents in advance roles “ill-defined responsibilities.”
Agents failed to communicate critical information about the shooter to Trump’s shift detail, who could have stopped the presidential candidate from stepping onto the stage, according to the report.
There was also a “severe lack of coordination and communication” between agents and state and local law enforcement throughout the event and during its planning, the report said.
“The United States Secret Service failed to act on credible intelligence, failed to coordinate with local law enforcement, and failed to prevent an attack that nearly took the life of a then-former president,” Paul said in a statement.
“Despite those failures, no one has been fired. And we only know what little discipline was handed out because I issued a subpoena. That’s unacceptable. This was not a single lapse in judgment. It was a complete breakdown of security at every level—fueled by bureaucratic indifference, a lack of clear protocols, and a shocking refusal to act on direct threats.”
Paul said the Senate must hold the Secret Service accountable and ensure reforms are fully implemented so that the events of July 13, 2024, do not happen again.
The Secret Service is tasked with protecting both current and former presidents and their families, as well as visiting foreign leaders, some other senior officials, and leading candidates in presidential elections.
In a statement to The Epoch Times, current Secret Service Director Sean Curran said the agency has seen the report and will continue “working cooperatively with the committee as we move forward with our mission.”
“Following the events of July 13, the Secret Service took a serious look at our operations and implemented substantive reforms to address the failures that occurred that day,” Curran said.
“The Secret Service appreciates the continued support of President Trump, Congress, and our federal and local partners who have been instrumental in providing crucial resources needed to support the agency’s efforts.”
The agency also referred to its one-year update on the July 13, 2024, Trump assassination attempt. Released last week, the update includes a list of recommendations from Congress, reforms the Secret Service has implemented in response, and a summary of the disciplinary actions taken.

President Trump Weighs in on Bondi, Bongino Clash Over Handling of Epstein Documents

President Trump personally weighed in on the Bondi-Bongino clash on Saturday afternoon.
Trump wrote on Truth Social:
“What’s going on with my “boys” and, in some cases, “gals?” They’re all going after Attorney General Pam Bondi, who is doing a FANTASTIC JOB! We’re on one Team, MAGA, and I don’t like what’s happening.
We have a PERFECT Administration, THE TALK OF THE WORLD, and “selfish people” are trying to hurt it, all over a guy who never dies, Jeffrey Epstein. For years, it’s Epstein, over and over again. Why are we giving publicity to Files written by Obama, Crooked Hillary, Comey, Brennan, and the Losers and Criminals of the Biden Administration, who conned the World with the Russia, Russia, Russia Hoax, 51 “Intelligence” Agents, “THE LAPTOP FROM HELL,” and more?
They created the Epstein Files, just like they created the FAKE Hillary Clinton/Christopher Steele Dossier that they used on me, and now my so-called “friends” are playing right into their hands
. Why didn’t these Radical Left Lunatics release the Epstein Files? If there was ANYTHING in there that could have hurt the MAGA Movement, why didn’t they use it? They haven’t even given up on the John F. Kennedy or Martin Luther King, Jr. Files.
No matter how much success we have had, securing the Border, deporting Criminals, fixing the Economy, Energy Dominance, a Safer World where Iran will not have Nuclear Weapons, it’s never enough for some people. We are about to achieve more in 6 months than any other Administration has achieved in over 100 years, and we have so much more to do.
We are saving our Country and, MAKING AMERICA GREAT AGAIN, which will continue to be our complete PRIORITY. The Left is imploding! Kash Patel, and the FBI, must be focused on investigating Voter Fraud, Political Corruption, ActBlue, The Rigged and Stolen Election of 2020, and arresting Thugs and Criminals, instead of spending month after month looking at nothing but the same old, Radical Left inspired Documents on Jeffrey Epstein.
LET PAM BONDI DO HER JOB — SHE’S GREAT! The 2020 Election was Rigged and Stolen, and they tried to do the same thing in 2024 — That’s what she is looking into as AG, and much more.
One year ago our Country was DEAD, now it’s the “HOTTEST” Country anywhere in the World. Let’s keep it that way, and not waste Time and Energy on Jeffrey Epstein, somebody that nobody cares about. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”
On Friday it was reported that FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino took a day off from work after a clash with Attorney General Pam Bondi over the handling of the Epstein files.
The blowup between Bondi and Bongino happened after the FBI, DOJ released a 2-page memo on Sunday concluding Jeffrey Epstein did not have a “client list” and that he committed suicide.
“Bongino did not report to work Friday amid speculation about his whereabouts, said a source familiar with the perspectives of DOJ leaders who also believes that Bongino is considering leaving,” NBC News reported.
“This came after a confrontation Wednesday at a meeting with Bondi and White House chief of staff Susie Wiles during which Bongino and Patel were asked about a news story suggesting they were dissatisfied with the decision not to release any additional Epstein files, according to the source familiar with the perspectives of DOJ leaders and an additional source familiar with the meeting,” NBC News said.
The memo also suggested that no further Epstein documents would be released to the public.
Later Friday it was reported by numerous sources that Dan Bongino was considering resigning if Bondi stayed at the Department of Justice.
“Bongino is out of control furious,” the person who has spoken with the deputy FBI director said, according to NBC News. “This destroyed his career. He’s threatening to quit and torch Pam unless she’s fired.”
Laura Loomer, who was the first to report on the Bongino-Bondi clash, said Dan Bongino may resign by Monday – or possibly a weekend resignation.

FBI Director Kash Patel is reportedly also frustrated with Pam Bondi and considering resigning if Dan Bongino leaves.
Earlier Friday it was reported that FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino took a day off from work after a clash with Attorney General Pam Bondi over the handling of the Epstein files.
On Sunday night a new FBI, DOJ memo obtained by Axios concluded Jeffrey Epstein did not have a client list that he used for blackmail.
According to Axios, Bongino was blamed for the oversight of the missing minute.
CNN reported that Bongino has told people he is considering resigning but he has not made up his mind yet.
The Daily Wire reported that Bongino said he won’t stay at the FBI if Pam Bondi stays at the DOJ.

It takes a special type of evil to mock Kerrville Texas Flood victims. The message from @adamzyglis and the @TheBuffaloNews is clear: if you support @POTUS then you and your children deserve to die.
Now Zyglis is whining because he got backlash.

Chicago Public Schools Going Broke – Facing $734 Million Budget Deficit and Laying Off Almost 1,500 Teachers and Staff
Mike LaChance, Gateway Pundit, Jul. 15, 2025

There’s an old saying that goes, something that can’t go on forever won’t.
Chicago is now in the early stages of learning that this applies to their public school system. They’re facing a massive budget deficit of $734 million and are on pace to lay off almost 1,500 teachers and staffers.
Perhaps Mayor Brandon Johnson should have been more focused on delivering the services that American citizen taxpayers paid for and less on the needs of illegal immigrants and Chicago’s ‘sanctuary city’ status.
BREAKING – Chicago Public Schools are now BANKRUPT as the city faces a $734 million deficit after paying for illegals, and must now lay off 1,458 employees, including 432 teachers and 677 special education classroom assistants. pic.twitter.com/8sAqN4rfHL

NBC News in Chicago reports:
CPS parents concerned about looming budget cuts following layoffs
Chicago Public Schools parents and community members sounded off on Monday, three days after the district announced more than 1,400 layoffs, including teachers, classroom assistants and security officers.
The first of five community listening sessions took place at Dyett High School, allowing parents a chance to provide input on the budgetary process following layoffs.
The district’s chief budget officer painted a grim picture of where Chicago schools stand.
“We are facing a budget deficit of $734 million for the 2025-2026 budget. In plainest terms, we are $734 million short of of potential expenses next year,” said Michael Sitkowski, CPS chief budget officer.
Feedback from the roundtable discussions is expected to help district officials make major budgetary decisions.
“For us to pass a balanced budget, this means we need to identify $734 million of additional resources or cost reductions,” he said.
So, those in attendance got to work. Parents, teachers, and even students, took a serious look at their biggest concerns.
This was entirely predictable, wasn’t it?
Lining up to the stereotype that Democrats spend money they do not have. Brandon Johnson is an absolute failure. Stop voting Democrat if you want things to change. https://t.co/6D1aamzI7S

If people in New York City want a glimpse of their future under a Mayor Zohran Mamdani administration, they need look no further than Chicago.

Supreme Court Allows Trump to Fire Education Department Employees
The 6–3 ruling reverses a lower court order blocking the terminations.
Matthew Vadum, NTD News, 7/14/2025
(https://www.ntd.com/supreme-court-allows-trump-to-fire-education-department-employees_1078870.html)
The Supreme Court on July 14 allowed President Donald Trump to move forward with dismantling the Department of Education by firing almost 1,400 employees.
Three justices—Sonia Sotomayor, Elena Kagan, and Ketanji Brown Jackson—dissented from the ruling.
A federal district court had issued an injunction blocking the process and directing the government to rehire some of the departmental employees who had been laid off.
U.S. District Judge Myong Joun of Massachusetts issued an order on May 22 directing the government to rehire the laid-off employees and reverse other actions aimed at downsizing the department.
