The day had magic sparkling all around.
It wasn’t a particularly special day.
In fact it would have been like an ordinary workday as people went about their business as nothing was different.
But I could see it was not like it used to be. I felt the difference.
Every direction I turned my head it looked like an ordinary everyday scene. But this time magic surrounded it.
The magic filled the spaces in-between the ‘ need to’s’, the ‘must do’s’ and the ‘why am I here’s.’
Ordinary people on an ordinary day and yet the light radiated all around them and changed everything.
I drove across town taking it all in with amazement and a feeling of peace emanating throughout my body.
There is nothing in particular that could pinpoint describe what it was.
That’s why it’s called magic. You cannot really see the cause.
But the effect stands out because you didn’t see how the change happened. It just appears to be different than what is expected.
When I saw it I wasn’t sure what I was seeing.
But when I felt it I knew, this is what magic looks like.
It is the lime in the salsa. The lemon zest in the sauce.
The refraction of light from a prism that makes the rainbow seem to move.
It is the unseen air current that carries bubbles high into the sky, lifting kites to dance back and forth, giving direction to the sparrows, ravens and butterflies.
It is the turning of the flower’s head, appearance of fall color in a leaf and the dust devil popping across a vacant lot.
It is the synchronicity of a friend finding you at the coffee shop, gas station or shopping.
It is the arrival of a letter, a text or a found photo. It is the washed money in a pocket from the laundry.
The extra mile on an empty tank.
Magic arrives in the form of inspiration to be, to do or create out of the blue.
And it is found as a nudge that when followed opens up doors with quiet grandness .
Magic doesn’t need a big brass band announcing its arrival.
On the contrary it’s more like a bread crumb, a paper chase or a moment of faith that compels you to grasp a thread.
Having a knowing to follow what may not be what was expected is stepping onto the magical path.
The day will shift and flow in ways you cannot plan.
Like a wave lifting you high so you can see above the whole sea of chaos.
From high on that wave you see the ordinary as extraordinary.
The fluid surface becomes a ride in between waves. And if you don’t resist, the next wave lifts you above the chaos once again.
Wave after wave until you don’t worry or have concern about falling into the chaos.
This is where you can feel the magic take you with the current.
Thoughts of inspiration emerge that influence or expand upon your original plans or make something entirely new in a way not tried before.
This is where I was at when I got swept along in my day. Each moment brought forward my next level of inspiration. my mind was flooded with ideas for what I could create next. How to tweek what I was already working on and how to make it even better came flying by me so fast. I could hardly speak.
My friend asked me, Where did you go? I just smiled at her. It was all I could do to keep up with it all.
I wanted to do and try new things all in each moment of the now.
Impossible to actually do but the thinking was unlimited.
The feeling is uplifting and the shared exuberance infectious.
Everyone I met was greeted with my smile.
The energy and the confidence that magic embodies was swirling around us all.
It’s right there. It’s right here.
In between the lines, connecting the dots and helping cross the t’s.
To find this magic, the only instructions are to let go and let be.
Then allow and follow. This is the power of ‘Yes’.
I said it as a reply to anything that came into my field.
It went like this.
I spotted a sign to a coffee shop that I wouldn’t ordinarily go to.
I called a friend and said we should go. We did and sat inside looking at the walls.
I said, they need art. My friend agreed. They were having a grand opening in two days and they would love to have art on the walls.
My friend and I brought back enough pieces to cover their walls. The opening is tomorrow and all parties are pleased with the results.
Checking the labels on the wall, my phone rang and a woman doubled her order, could I ship right away. I headed across town to get the items from the shop.
A text came in, I had another job. Could I complete it by 3 this afternoon? Sure, let me mail this package.
I arrive at the next job, a delivery. Oh and by the way the receiving party had just come into town and was up the street.
They practically had come to me.
A trip to the post office, money came in, and I stopped by the bank.
An invite for dinner, reservations were already made, I barely had time to change my clothes.
Dinner was amazing. This place went above and beyond common food.
The day couldn’t have been planned.
If I had it my way it would have made it way more boring.
It was during all this running around that I saw the magic swirling in and around.
I felt the energy flowing between all the parties. It was a moment away from the chaos and worry.
Vacated from the banter of right and wrong my day moved to a space of ‘it just is’.
And that ‘just is’ was incredible.
The sheer joy that people carry with them can give faith to the masses.
Oh there is plenty of heartache and stories of woe. But the level of happiness the working people have is pretty astounding.
Everyone that was doing a job that they love, radiated back out to people they were around.
The coffee shop gal had started her own business because she loved making a good cup of coffee.
My artist friend’s display of paintings was beautiful and will most likely sell out.
Each person along the way that day was gifted and are enjoying doing what they do creating in some way.
To be able to do it better and make it wonderful was their drive.
The finishing glaze happened at dinner with the waitress and the chef being outstanding.
Everyone was working but they were creating magic as they went.
The interactions were filled with love and joy.
That is magic at work and in the making.
I was told once not to ruin good by trying to be perfect.
My day had just been perfect.
I hadn’t even tried, it just happened.
It would be so great if tomorrow could be just as perfect.
And I suppose it can be. But trying to recreate it will not make it happen.
No, tomorrow will be different.
That is the beauty of it all.
Magic isn’t a plan.
Magic is an energy that flows through us when we are a kite in the wind.
