A dear friend who, over the years, has served as a muse of sorts by posing the most thought provoking questions…he sent me a meme. It wasn’t just any meme, either. It was a quote from German historian and philosopher, Hannah Arendt, and it’s appropriate to the world today…but with a few caveats.
I agree with her first statement.
Her second is simply not true. One’s moral compass need not be (and I don’t feel actually is) in any way connected to how one views the world in which they find themselves. Just because I can see that everyone has an agenda, and that they want me to feel a certain way, inspire certain action, etc., that really has no effect on my choice on whether to kill, steal, lie, cheat or do any other thing that there are laws about, of both a physical and spiritual nature.
Having disagreed with postulation number two, all I can say about part three is that I feel that humanity has evolved quite a lot since Hannah made her assertions. Having said that, though…there does seem to be a (hopefully very small) segment of the human collective who have been seemingly irretrievably captivated by mainstream propaganda.
Maybe all we can do for those ones is pray for them to have clarity at some point. And while we’re at it, we may as well add to the prayer that they have a safe space to be in when the realizations start rolling in.
