France 24: Belgian authorities said Monday they had intercepted 30 vehicles as police scrambled to stop a Canada-style #protest #convoy against #Covid-19 regulations from reaching #Brussels. Demonstrators in the “freedom convoy” were seeking to head north to the seat of the European Union in defiance of a Belgian ban after a weekend trying to block traffic in France.

French police fired tear gas at demonstrators on the Champs-Elysees avenue and other places in Paris on Saturday after a “Freedom Convoy” protesting against COVID-19 restrictions made it into the capital.
Vehicles carrying protesters managed to get through police checkpoints in central Paris to snarl traffic around the Arc de Triomphe monument. Inspired by horn-blaring “Freedom Convoy” demonstrations in Canada, motorists waved French flags and honked in defiance of a police order not to enter the city.
Police also threw tear gas grenades to disperse protestors, who are against a vaccine pass required to enter many public places, near the Arc de Triomphe and sprayed demonstrators in a separate march on the other side of the city. (The Telegraph)

OTTAWA, Feb 14 (Reuters) – Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will invoke the little-used Emergencies Act to give his government extra powers to deal with protesting truckers, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation said on Monday.
The CBC, which did not give a source for the report, said Ottawa had no plans to send in the military.
