The spiritual benefits of dis-ease (1)

I received some really nice comments in response to my article a couple of weeks ago on What we can do to raise our vibrations, in which I wrote about some of the methods I’ve been using to deal with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome or CFS. I got some lovely advice on ways of treating CFS (with special thanks to Barbara) and I think it’s absolutely wonderful that people care enough to take time to respond in this way!
However instead of looking at ways to cure my illness, in this article I’d like to focus on the benefits of dealing with disease.
If you were to surf the internet for ways to cure CFS, you would find more search results than I’d care to count. Meanwhile, it‘s a lot harder to find an article on the (spiritual) benefits of dealing with dis-ease.
Admittedly it certainly ‘ain’t no picnic’ to live life in constant pain and with severe fatigue that never seems to lift, no matter how much you sleep or rest. It would be fantastic if the primary cause of CFS –or any other disease for that matter- would be discovered (or revealed?) and while we’re at it, a cure for it.
Be that as it may, I don’t think I became ill because of some unfortunate coincidence. I believe that my life situation was perfectly designed by my Higher Self and Spirit Guides, to help me learn some really valuable life lessons (capital L!).
On a spiritual level, I don’t think I benefitted from anything in my life as much as I have from this debilitating dis-ease! From that perspective, we stand to gain a lot from our illnesses and ailments. Rather than “fighting” our diseases, we can become friendly with them and use them as our allies instead of our enemies.
So in a series of articles, I would like to look at some of the lessons I learned as a result of being ill, if you’ll permit me. Undoubtedly, some of you may be dealing with illnesses and ailments and it may help you to look at it from a different perspective.
