The Freedom of Information Act was put to use to uncover the documents that refer to the protestors in Ferguson as “enemy forces” and “adversaries”. The highly militarized description of U.S. citizens have created an even deeper rift between the common man/woman and the law.
The law enforcement agencies and the National Guard tried to plan out their arrival as to not add to the disruption of the town, but you just can’t please everyone. It made some uncomfortable and it made others upset that they did not come soon enough. The rioting that took place in some areas ultimately damaged some businesses that to this day have yet to reopen.
Protesters should be allowed to assemble peacefully, but given the racial circumstances emotions are running high. Then the leaked documents by law enforcement filled with racial bigotry increased tensions and distrust between the public and the public ‘servants’ whom have sworn to protect them.
I have hope in my heart that this matter will resolve peacefully and without further incident. It has been noted that some protests have carried on for 200 days or more. What needs to happen here is voices need to be heard, policies reviewed, and justice within the justice system. We want to be able to trust and rely on the defenders and protectors of our communities, but when they turn criminal themselves there needs to be a massive and publicly disclosed reorganization.
Acquittals or lack of indictments for murder should not be tolerated. We do not need an eye for an eye, what we do need is agency transparency. Let us see who you are and what you are doing and when mistakes are made to this scale justice needs to be a number one priority.
Flying Machine Buzzes Capitol
Doug Hughes, a postal worker from Florida decided to fly his gyrocopter to the Capitol building in protest. Shortly after landing he was arrested without incident and charged with flying an unauthorized aircraft in restricted airspace.
This has raised a whole hullabaloo with some insisting somebody’s head rolls for this incident. Others just want to know where to buy a gyrocopter of their own. Some local law enforcement officials are warning against over reacting. There was no malicious intent in the landing and Hughes posted on a website he was not doing this to cause destruction or harm anyone.
The secret service had interviewed Hughes back in 2013 and deemed him not to be a threat. However, with the recent incidents involving the drones landing on the White House grounds it has gotten some government officials a more than a little nervous.
I think the best statement out of the whole article is from John Adler, President of the Federal Law Enforcement Officer’s Association, “We don’t want to turn our country into a fortified dungeon.”
The whole incident was mild and harmless but did have potential for devastation if there was violence in mind. I find he’s done our government a favor and gave them another security scenario so in the future they will be more protected.
Mix of Curiosity and Outrage on the Hill After Pilot Buzzes Capitol
We are far greater beings we have been told, far greater than most of us realize.
