You may be asking yourself what’s going on with me. One day I’m moving ahead steadily, attending to this and that and the next day declaring November 11, which is already a strong day with much that’s happening on it, World Freedom Day. What in the world is going on?
You’ve probably noticed that the Occupy Together movement presently moves by fits and starts. One minute we have Oct. 15, the day on which Occupy movements are asked to coalesce all over the world, and then Oct. 28, the day on which everyone is asked to stop work, and then…? In between the days we’re becalmed.
The trick is to organize more and more days.
In arousing the world, what we need to do is create occasion. In setting the agenda for the 99%, rather than constantly responding to the agenda of the 1%, we actually have to take the initiative, create the momentum, etc., and set goals, standards and occasions for ourselves.
When I looked within myself and asked what I could do, I saw that I could create occasion on Nov. 11, a day which we know will see a tremendous boost in energy around the world anyways. I decided to create occasion for world peace and freedom.
I’m not attached to the results. The day could pass without notice and I’d be as happy as I am having acted. I’m very much convinced that there’s no need to push the river. Calling for World Freedom Day, in the words of Werner Erhard, is very much riding the horse in the direction it’s going. This world is moving in the direction of the emancipation of humanity no matter what we presently do or do not do.
Does that mean that I intend to uproot everything to see to this new occasion? Not at this point, I don’t. It means that I recognize that the world is ready to take up the cause of its own freedom, peacefully, harmoniously. As the sign at the Occupy Vancouver rally said: “We have decided not to die.” We have woken up. We have seen the direction the world was going in and we say no.
In the peaceful struggle to turn the world around and create a world that works for everyone, with no one left out, the people have awoken and all they need is the occasion to express it.
World Freedom Day is one such occasion. I know the world will greet it.
