I’ve just become aware recently that my studies since I was a very young man have always had a hidden bias, leaning, orientation.
They’ve always leaned towards the standpoint that perfection of being is possible. They’ve alway s been a search for perfection of being.
Let me detail stages in that research. In my earliest adult years, I studied things like games people play and scripts people live. (1)
Underneath that study, was the view that people need not play games or live scripts. Games and scripts were levels of imperfection and I had the nascent, incipient view that people could perfect themselves, that people could be perfect.
“I’m OK. You’re OK” is surely a statement of that viewpoint. (2) Universal regard, sincerity, non-judgmentalness were all things we aimed for and what are they except a stage in unitive consciousness and in the perfection of the person, the perfection of being?
The flowering of the Growth Movement supported this point of view, the Human Potential Movement, consciousness raising, etc. Again the nascent and incipient belief was that people could advance towards perfection, that human potential was limitless.
Certainly Werner Erhard’s emphasis in the est Training was that a person could blossom into full self-awareness, natural knowing, total responsibility, full aliveness, complete self-expression, etc. Again it emphasized perfection of being.
I could trace that orientation through meditation, enlightenment studies, the work of Enlightenment Intensives, right up to the present – indeed up to the present – with “Ascension.”
Whether perfection is possible or not, whether I achieve even a fraction of it or miss it completely, the search for perfection has never stopped even for a minute with me.
In the old days, anyone who searched for perfection we’d call, with a slightly-disdainful tone, a “perfectionist.” Being called that was something we heartily wished to avoid.
Moreover we developed what I can only think of as false grids around it. Look on the Internet and you’ll see them: “perfection is impossible,” “perfection is a myth,” “be real, not perfect.” Nevertheless there it was: I have had and continue to have the hidden view that perfection of being is possible.
Today we find ourselves, all of us, expecting Ascension. And what is that except a much higher level of perfection of being?
The person past sahaja samadhi is sometimes said to be a perfected being: blissful, liberated, fully conscious. David Wilcock called that state “true freedom of spirit.” “The glory of life will be elevated to levels you may have thought impossible at any point in the past.” (3)
“Life for you will become exciting with little or no limitations as to what you can do,” SaLuSa said of it, “and it will become most satisfying and fulfill your wildest dreams.” (4) Surely this describes perfection.
Archangel Michael put it this way:
“It is a feeling of complete and utter surrender and bliss. It is a sensation — physical, mental, emotional, spiritual — of union. So there is a moment where you feel, oh, I have died. Because that is the sense of such release and reconnection. But of course you are not dying. … Think of it as being spiritually orgasmic. It is the union of all.” (5)
Saul has always seemed to be the most enthusiastic promoter of it:
“Heaven’s intent for humanity is leading you all forwards towards this supremely auspicious event that will bring with it joy, happiness, peace, and prosperous abundance for all; and that event is, of course, your awakening into your natural and fully-conscious state.”
Sri Ramana Maharshi called that natural and fully-conscious state sahaja samadhi (sahaja = natural; samadhi = fully-conscious state). We know it as Ascension. Saul continues:
“Truly, at present, you can have not the slightest idea of the wonders that are waiting to unfold for you. Anticipate your awakening with excitement and surety because what God has promised He will deliver, and no-one will be disappointed. For in God no such possibility exists.” (6)
Plotinus pointed to it to so many years ago.
“Have you become like this? Do you see yourself, abiding within yourself, in pure solitude? Does nothing now remain to shatter that interior unity, nor anything cling to your authentic self?
“Are you entirely that sole true light which is not contained by space, not confined to any circumscribed form, not diffused as something without term, but ever immeasurable as something greater than all measure and something more than all quantity? Do you see yourself in this state? Then you have become vision itself.” (7)
So why not just come out and say it? I search for a state of being that’s perfect. I wonder what the perfect person looks like. This has always been my burning question.
Without descending into grandiosity, without losing touch with everyday, “normal” life, I seek that perfect state and I choose to see a level of perfection in Ascension. At this moment, the search of a lifetime, the possibility of perfection, is suddenly clear and real for me. And it’s becoming clearer and coming closer.
Total perfection obviously awaits our return to God. But life, as I now see it, is a search for ever-increasing levels of it.
Perfection has been shown to me as a real possibility by those masters we read here who describe Ascension. After this point, I imagine, the search will be up to conscious awareness.
Whereas before I watered down that drive by accepting drama, detours and distracting novelties and pleasures, now I find myself, in Archangel Michael’s words, “naked etherically” (8) and hungering only for perfection.
Perfection is possible. I always suspected it. But now I hunger for it, yearn for it, and actually look for it expectantly.
