I read this today, and it really struck me as how appropriate and well it fits for our current time, so much so that I wanted to share this with the other folks here at GAoG. If others know or come across some wise words, please feel free to share them here. I think it’d be fun to keep this thread perpetual.

ModeratorAnother from the Paradise Found newsletter. This seems especially for Thomas and Lori, you Earth-workers.
People often ask me what one thing I would recommend to restore relationship between land and people. My answer is almost always, “Plant a garden.” It’s good for the health of the earth and it’s good for the health of people.
A garden is a nursery for nurturing connection, the soil for cultivation of practical reverence. And its power goes far beyond the garden gate—once you develop a relationship with a little patch of earth, it becomes a seed itself. Something essential happens in a vegetable garden.
It’s a place where if you can’t say “I love you” out loud, you can say it in seeds. And the land will reciprocate, in beans.

Participant“You’ve got a good, strong pair of legs, Rose; you should get up and use ‘em.”
– Edward Elric, Fullmetal Alchemist
I would like to give some context to this quote that has a lot of meaning to me.
Fullmetal Alchemist is an anime that I hold very dear to my heart. If you don’t know what anime is, it’s Japanese cartoons, essentially, but there is probably 100 times more variety with Japanese cartoons than American ones, and they are for all age ranges, rather than just for kids. I know there is adult animation in America, but it’s quite honestly pathetic compared to anime. Imagine a thrilling and morally controversial detective show with fantasy elements and the villain as the main character. That’s an anime called Death Note. It’s not for kids, but it’s also not a one dimensional adult comedy cartoon like Family Guy (yuck).
I will do my best to summarize the bare minimum that you need to know in order to understand the quote. I warn you that this is going to be very long despite this being the least amount of information that I can share, so if you just want to see what the quote means and why it’s important to me, then scroll to the bottom of the post.
Fullmetal Alchemist is an anime about two brothers, Edward Elric, aged 15; and Alphonse Elric, aged 14. They live in a world similar to ours, but the event in history that changed the course of human development for them was that alchemy is a widely practiced science, and the way it is expressed in their world looks like magic compared to how far we got with alchemy in our world.
The political geography of their world is also different, with the country in which the story takes place being called Amestris, similar to Germany in ethnicity of the citizens. Aside from that, the setting is in the 1910’s, so they still don’t have much advanced technology, except for one miraculous invention: Automail.
Automail is what we would call artificial limbs, but they make them out of metal, and the magical thing about them is that they have mechanisms that link up directly to one’s nervous system, so aside from a lack of sense of touch, it’s like getting your lost limb back. This piece of information is very important, we’ll be coming back to it later.
Edward and Alphonse’s father was an alchemy prodigy who left his family for unknown reasons when they were very young. Their mother did her best to raise them on her own, but she eventually fell sick from grief and passed away when the boys were 6-years-old and 5-year-old, respectively. Ed and Al, now parentless, were at a loss as to how to survive, but Edward came up with a plan, a very dangerous plan to bring their mother back to life using the power of alchemy.
Any form of alchemy performed upon humans, labeled Human Transmutation, is forbidden because of its gruesome consequences, yet the boys forged on, using their father’s alchemy textbooks to study, and eventually training under a teacher. At ages 10 and 9, Edward and Alphonse finally had the knowledge to perform Human Transmutation on their mother’s soul to bring her back from the dead. Or so they thought.
Alchemy’s golden rule in their world is the Law of Equivalent Exchange, which states that any output of mass and energy must be equal to the input. Edward and Alphonse learned this the hard way.
The alchemical reaction spirals violently out of control, and creates a dimensional rift right in front of them. Out of the portal come dozens of ribbon-like black hands that pull Alphonse into it, deconstructing him completely as Edward desperately tries to save him. The reaction then cleanly cuts off and deconstructs Edward’s left leg, leaving only the upper half of his thigh. The transmutation is a complete failure, leaving a hideous mangled creature in place of their mother, which dies shortly after.
In a desperate attempt to save his brother’s life, Edward sacrifices his right arm as material for another Human Transmutation. He attaches Alphonse’s soul to a suit of armor in a corner of the room, and Al rushes to their childhood friend’s house, carrying Ed in his arms. Their friend Winry, also a young girl around their age, is part of a family of Automail engineers and doctors, so she and her grandmother are able to save Edward’s life.
Months pass, and Edward is confined to a wheelchair. His eyes are empty and lifeless, and he spends all his time grieving his terrible mistake, and feeling tremendous guilt over resigning his brother to a meaningless life in a cold metal shell with his sense of touch, taste and smell taken from him. Winry and her grandmother Pinako do their best to care for the boys and help them move on from their tragic accident.
One day, two officers from the military, named Roy Mustang and Riza Hawkeye, arrive at Winry’s house, looking for Edward and Alphonse’s father. They had intercepted a letter that Ed and Al had wrote to their father years ago in an attempt to bring him home. Upon inspecting their now abandoned home, Roy and Riza find the failed Human Transmutation and the dead creature in the basement. Roy’s initial reaction is to threaten the boys with prison time, but when he sees their remorseful faces, he calms down and asks Pinako what happened.
After hearing the story, Roy gives Edward an offer. He says that he can either wallow in self pity for the rest of his life, or try to fix things by joining the military. He tells Edward about all the cutting edge science that the military has access to, and something therein may have a way to get their bodies back to normal.
This lights a fire in Edward’s soul, and after Roy and Riza leave, Ed asks Winry and Pinako to outfit him with a new arm and leg. The surgery and recovery take a year, much much shorter than most patients, and Edward sets off to the Amestris military headquarters. Since Edward is only 12 years old, Roy uses his connections and his cleverness to get him into the State Alchemy Exam, a multi layered test to become a State Alchemist, which is usually reserved for legal adults.
Edward passes the exam with flying colors, and is given the title “Fullmetal” as his unique monicker. After a very rocky adjustment period to life as a soldier, Edward makes an agreement with Roy, his now commanding officer, that in between completing all his duties, he will be allowed to travel and search for the Philosopher’s Stone, an all powerful alchemical tool that allows one to bypass the Law of Equivalent Exchange, which Edward learned about after gaining access to the military’s library.
Fast forward three years; Edward is now 15, and Alphonse is 14. They travel together to a desert town called Liore. They have heard rumors that a priest in town is creating miraculous things, like turning the water fountains into wine, and making things out of thin air. Ed and Al suspect that the man may have the Philosopher’s Stone in his possession.
They cross paths with a young woman named Rose, who is a devout worshiper of the town’s religion, Letoism. She offers to bring them to their head priest, Father Cornello, the same man who has been performing supposed miracles. They learn that she serves the church of Leto because she believes that Cornello can bring her dead fiancée back to life.
Ed and Al confront Cornello about his obvious use of alchemy to perform “miracles,” and call out his use of the Philosopher’s Stone, while Rose stands by in horror. Cornello, showing his true colors as a man with no reverence for life, unleashes monstrous chimeras upon Edward and Alphonse in an attempt to kill them. Thanks to their martial arts training and ability to craft weapons with alchemy, the boys are able to defend themselves. One beast bites onto Edward’s right arm, and to Cornello’s utter shock, Ed rips off his long sleeved jacket to expose his Automail.
Cornello then makes the connection that Ed and Al must have performed Human Transmutation in order for their bodies to look the way they do. Edward looks at Rose and says, “This is what happens when you try to bring a human back to life. Do you really wanna go through with that?”
Cornello then makes a machine gun with alchemy and fires on the boys. They narrowly escape the bullets and flee the church.
Later that night, Edward allows himself to be caught by Cornello, while Alphonse hides from the riled up and brainwashed townsfolk who learned of the assault on their beloved priest.
The next day, Al finds where Ed is being held prisoner, and fashions a microphone and a loudspeaker using alchemy. Edward tricks Cornello into revealing his true plans to create a brainwashed army with a holy cause and storm their country’s capital, as this information is relayed to the entire town via the loudspeaker.
The townsfolk are whipped into a frenzy, some of them rushing to confront Cornello, as Edward starts a fight with him to take his Philosopher’s Stone. Edward defeats the priest and demands the stone, only to see it shatter and turn to dust in front of him. He realizes that Cornello’s supposed Philosopher’s Stone must have been a fake.
The priest runs away, and Edward is left feeling cheated, as he is now back to square one with looking for the real Philosopher’s Stone.
He and Alphonse prepare to leave town, as the citizens are in a state of shock, trying to come to terms with their fraud of a savior. Rose approaches Ed and Al. She yells at them, saying they should have never come. She cries, “We’re a desert village, we had nothing before that!”
Edward replies, “So you would’ve just let things stay as they were?”
Rose says, “Well why not…? What do I have to live for now that I know Kane won’t come back?! You tell me THAT, Ed!”
Rose slumps onto the ground in despair, and Edward says, “You’ve got a good, strong pair of legs, Rose; you should get up and use ‘em.”
I do apologize for how much I needed to explain in order for the full impact of that quote to be felt. That quote, and really the entire show, is such an inspiration to me.
I also wanna say that the show has a happy ending despite such a dark beginning. I only shared with you the plot points from the first 3 or 4 episodes, and that show is 64 episodes long.
The message of the quote is “pick yourself up and keep moving forward.” It has helped me tremendously throughout my spiritual journey. I don’t always remember that exact line from the show, but if I just remember Edward and Alphonse, and what they went through, I feel inspired to keep going. They have taught me that if I just keep on moving, and keep on living, I can overcome any hardship, any tragedy, and find happiness.

ParticipantI just remembered something that I think you’ll find interesting about Fullmetal Alchemist. That show actually red-pilled me about secret government conspiracies that involve killing unfathomable amounts of people in order to empower the elite. It’s not a perfect 1 to 1 with the cabal, but that idea of evil lurking in the shadows and corrupting people in positions of power was seeded into my mind because of that show, and it was the first anime that I ever watched.

ParticipantI am so happy that you guys are actually interested in watching the show! It’s one of the greatest stories I’ve ever seen. If you are serious about checking it out, then I need to give you some important information.
Fullmetal Alchemist was originally a manga, which is Japan’s word for comic book. Then the manga got adapted into an anime, but there are actually two animes that go by the title Fullmetal Alchemist.
The first show that was made, around 2003, was made when the manga wasn’t finished, so the director of the anime took the story in his own direction.
The second show, made around 2010, was created after the manga was complete, and faithfully follows the manga’s plot. It was given the subtitle “Brotherhood” in order to differentiate it from the old series.
Both versions of the story are fantastic, but they are also quite different in a number of ways.
The old series is much darker, sadder, more serious, with lots of moral ambiguity and controversy. The ending of that one, without spoiling anything, is very bittersweet.
The newer one, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, is a lot happier in tone, with a lot more comedy, and there are fewer moral gray areas, but the biggest moral questions are still present. This one has the happy ending that I talked about in the other post.
I personally recommend watching both shows if you want the best experience. The old show gives a lot more character development in the early stages of the plot because they had so few manga chapters to work with. Brotherhood glosses over a lot of early character development because the writers thought, “well they already saw this stuff, let’s just get through it quickly so we can get to the new plot points.”
If you really just want to watch one show only, then I highly recommend watching Brotherhood, simply for the fact that it is the true story of Edward and Alphonse.

ParticipantOkay, FINAL final note. If you choose to watch the old series, the ending is in the form of an animated movie. So if you just watch the anime episodes, you’ll miss the true ending. Brotherhood is not like this; the whole story is encapsulated in the anime episodes.

ParticipantI think this is important to share as I believe others here may glean something from this, or make a cog in their head turn so to speak. So the following two quotes aren’t inspiring or uplifting, which was my intent in starting this thread, but these quotes below, I believe, show history repeating itself and where the Deep State is taking from their own playbook written by one of their own evil ones about 80 or so years ago. It worked so well then, I imagine they think it will work again, but the reality is it isn’t. Since we of The Light live in the 3D world, but are not of the 3D world, I found this helpful for me to bring awareness, without dwelling on it or letting it bring me down.
“Propaganda works best when those who are being manipulated are confident they are acting on their own free will.”
“If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.” ~Joseph Goebbels, Minister of Propaganda for Hitler and the Nazi Party

KeymasterHey, Thomas.
Just wanting you to know I found you. Thanks to your brother Jim.
I put all my quotes in my databases and now I’m left a poor pauper.
But I sure am enjoying the quotes other folks are putting up here.
Let me “create” one maybe. That’d be fun:
I think the human race is primarily motivated by how we feel. Seeking pleasure and avoiding pain is not far off. The question then becomes why do we not take responsibility for our feelings and do what we can, short of creating new issues and barriers, to ensure that the ones we have are ones we’ll enjoy? Like drawing love up from our hearts and sending it out to the world. Love must flow and so we get to enjoy it as it arises and flows through us. At some future date, when it grows from a trickle to a tsunami, we’ll find that the love we’ve been drawing up from our hearts is what we’ve always been looking for.
See you on 8 at 8!
Steve

ParticipantI thought up a phrase that means a lot to me: “Never let fear or pride get in the way of love.” I see those two things as the most common reasons why relationships fail. Either someone is too scared to look their shadow in the face, or they are too prideful to admit they’re wrong. I’m sure we could boil pride down to some form of fear, but most average folks don’t see them as the same thing, so this is more digestible for them.

Wonderful Alex and very practical as you describe for a relationship … towards outside brothers and sisters. Probably even in a relationship with your current, former, lower and higher self!?
Isn’t it strange we know we are learning, but dislike making mistakes all the way up to a level of shame and fear? Anyway, pride isn’t something negative in itself, but false pride isn’t really helping no one … probably only delaying the inevitable exposure for the ego.

Do not fall into the old ways that will lead you precisely into the world that you fear.
