Trump Announces Federal Crime Crackdown Will Target Chicago Next After DC

Chicago could receive similar treatment from the federal government as Washington, the president says.

President Donald Trump said Friday that Chicago will be the next major U.S. city to face a crackdown on crime after deploying federal law enforcement officials and the National Guard to Washington.

“After we do this, we’ll go to another location, and we’ll make it safe also,” Trump told reporters inside the Oval Office, referring to his efforts in Washington to crack down on crime.

“Chicago’s a mess. We’ll straighten that one out probably next. That will be our next one after this. And it won’t even be tough.”

The president suggested that there are residents urging him to intervene in Chicago, adding that his administration would focus on other cities after that. He named New York City as another municipality that could be targeted.

“They’re wearing red hats, African American ladies, beautiful ladies, are saying, ‘Please, President Trump, come to Chicago,’” Trump told reporters on Friday.

Last year, there were 559 homicides in Chicago, a decrease of 7.3 percent over the previous year, when 603 murders were reported, according to a report from the University of Chicago released in December. The report noted that 689 homicides were reported in 2022, 785 in 2021, 747 in 2020, and 481 in 2019.

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson, who has yet to issue a response to Trump’s Oval Office comment, told Democracy Now earlier this month that deploying federal resources to Chicago is not necessary and said that his city is safe.

“We’re building the safest, most affordable big city in America, the most pro-worker city in America, and we’re doing it in a very collective way,” Johnson told the outlet in an interview on Aug. 15.

He said that it’s, in part, due to investing in mental health services.

“When people are having mental health crises, a paid professional mental health provider shows up to those crises, versus a police officer, to provide the necessary care there, and that frees up law enforcement to address some of the other critical issues that we are dealing with,” the mayor said.

Earlier this month, the Trump administration took over the District of Columbia’s Metropolitan Police Department and deployed hundreds of National Guard troops across the city to crack down on crime.

On Friday, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth acknowledged reports that he ordered National Guard members in Washington to carry firearms, writing in a post on X that it is a “common sense” policy.

Critics of Trump’s decision to deploy troops in Washington, including Mayor Muriel Bowser, have said that crime numbers have been on the decline in recent years and that a surge in law enforcement is not needed.

But Trump has said that her numbers are not accurate. In a post on Truth Social on Friday morning, Trump said that Bowser “must immediately stop giving false and highly inaccurate crime figures, or bad things will happen, including a complete and total Federal takeover of the City!”

Trump’s post also said that “the crowds are coming back, the spirit is high, and our D.C. National Guard and Police are doing a fantastic job. They are out in force, and are NOT PLAYING GAMES!!! As bad as it sounds to say, there were no murders this week for the first time in memory.”

During his Oval Office appearance, Trump told reporters that Bowser had “better get her act straight or she won’t be mayor for long.”

Farage would explore deals with countries such as Rwanda and Albania to house asylum seekers after they are deported.

“’The aim of this legislation is mass deportations,’ Mr Farage said in an interview with the Times. ‘We have a massive crisis in Britain.’”

In March 2025, headlines across the country described the deportation of Kilmar Ábrego García, a Salvadoran citizen living in Maryland, as the story of a “Maryland dad wrongfully deported.”

The case became a rallying cry for progressive activists, Democratic politicians, and sympathetic media outlets.

Yet beneath the carefully crafted narrative, disturbing facts reveal something very different: a man with suspected gang ties, a history that warranted legal scrutiny, and a media machine willing to mislead the public to advance a political agenda.

The García case is a window into how the American left has abandoned any sense of moral grounding. By portraying a man with gang tattoos and MS-13 ties as an innocent father torn away from his family, progressives revealed the extent to which ideology now overrides reality.

When President Trump held press conferences defending the need to keep gang members out of the United States, he was condemned by reporters who demanded to know why a man covered in gang tattoos could be considered dangerous.

The fact that such a question was asked at all shows how warped the debate has become.

Mainstream coverage of García was deliberately framed to tug at the heartstrings. Outlets from CNN to The Guardian consistently referred to him as a “Maryland dad” or “Maryland man.”

Rarely mentioned in those sympathetic portrayals were the very reasons law enforcement flagged him for deportation in the first place: his background and suspected ties to violent gangs.

Instead of addressing legitimate security concerns, the media crafted a human-interest story designed to cast the Trump administration as cruel and heartless.

This type of framing is not an isolated incident. It is part of a broader pattern where facts are filtered through ideological lenses.

When voters are repeatedly told that immigration enforcement is inherently immoral, they lose sight of the victims of gang violence, drug trafficking, and human smuggling—the very problems Trump highlighted when he made immigration control a centerpiece of his presidency.

The García case also illustrates a larger trend: there is no longer a meaningful moderate left in America.

Once upon a time, Democrats like Joe Lieberman or even Bill Clinton (to an extent) acknowledged the need for borders and law enforcement.

Today, figures such as Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez—who polls show has significant support among Democrats heading into the 2028 primary season—champion open borders, defunding police, and hostility toward America’s allies like Israel.

Consider Zohran Mamdani, the Socialist candidate for New York City mayor, who openly endorses socialist policies while downplaying the historical reality of socialism’s failures.

Supporters insist that “socialism is not communism,” yet history proves otherwise. The Soviet Union called itself socialist, not communist, but the effect was the same: economic stagnation, repression, and decay.

To compare the vision of Mamdani’s Socialist America with 1970s Moscow is an accurate reflection of what happens when socialist ideology guides policy.

Even the DSA’s own platform openly calls for the elimination of police officers in schools, bans on CCTV cameras, and restrictions on armed security.

US to Review 55 Million Visa Holders for Possible Rule Violations

The Trump administration is reviewing all visa holders—more than 55 million people—for any violations that could lead to deportation, marking a significant expansion of the immigration crackdown.

In a written response to a question from NTD on Thursday, the State Department said the “continuous vetting” includes “all of the more than 55 million foreigners who currently hold valid U.S. visas.”

The State Department may revoke visas at “any time” if there are signs of potential ineligibility, such as overstaying, criminal activity, threats to public safety, involvement in terrorism, or supporting terrorist organizations, the statement said.

Ohio state Rep. Josh Williams, a Republican, wrote on X that “55 million visas is simply an incomprehensible number and a betrayal of working Americans who are now forced to compete in the same job and housing market as millions of people who shouldn’t be here.”

According to the Department of Homeland Security, there were 12.8 million green-card holders and 3.6 million people on temporary visas in the U.S. last year.

Julia Gelatt, associate director of the U.S. immigration policy program at the Migration Policy Institute, said the 55 million figure suggests that some tourists subject to review are currently outside the United States with multiple-entry visas.Assessment of ‘Anti-American’ Views

On Tuesday, the Trump administration announced it will scrutinize “anti-American” views, including social media activity, when evaluating applications for U.S. visas.

The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) issued a policy alert on Aug. 19, providing immigration officers with new guidance to exercise discretion in cases involving foreign applicants who “support or promote anti-American ideologies or activities” or “antisemitic terrorism.”

The policy highlights supporters of communism, totalitarian regimes, or those advocating the overthrow of the U.S. government or violence against its officers as negative factors.

USCIS said Anti-American activity will be an “overwhelmingly negative factor in any discretionary analysis.”

“America’s benefits should not be given to those who despise the country and promote anti-American ideologies,” said USCIS spokesman Matthew Tragesser. “Immigration benefits — including to live and work in the U.S. — remain a privilege, not a right.”Expanding Visa Crackdown

The Trump administration has moved to expand enforcement beyond illegal immigrants.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Thursday that the United States is immediately pausing the issuance of all worker visas for commercial truck drivers.

“The increasing number of foreign drivers operating large tractor-trailer trucks on U.S. roads is endangering American lives and undercutting the livelihoods of American truckers,” Rubio said in a post on X.

Non-English-speaking drivers have raised a series of safety concerns. In 2023, about 16 percent of U.S. truck drivers were born outside the United States, The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) said.

FMCSA is investigating a Florida highway crash that killed three people. The driver, Harjinder Singh, an Indian national without legal U.S. authorization and unable to speak English, faces three counts of vehicular homicide.

In April, Trump signed an executive order directing enforcement of a rule requiring commercial drivers in the United States to meet English-proficiency standards.

Since Trump’s second term began, the State Department has revoked over 6,000 student visas. Approximately 4,000 individuals breached the law, and 200 to 300 had their visas canceled for supporting terrorists, per the State Department.

“As part of the Trump administration’s commitment to protecting U.S. national security and public safety, since Inauguration Day, the State Department has revoked more than twice as many visas, including nearly four times as many student visas, as during the same time period last year,” the State Department said on Thursday.

Persecution has spread to some European countries and seems to be coordinated.

WASHINGTON—Lawmakers on a panel at the U.S. Capitol denounced the Chinese Communist Party’s far-reaching campaign of repression in the United States while commending the targeted group, Falun Gong, for its courage.

“It’s transnational terrorism as to what they seek to do, to undermine and to hurt people who are just filled with kindness towards others,” Rep. Chris Smith (R-N.J.) told a crowd of around 200 at a forum on July 17 titled “Safeguarding Freedom: Countering CCP Transnational Repression.”

“There’s no boundaries to what this dictatorship will do anywhere and everywhere, and we’ve got to stand boldly against it, and you are doing that. So I really thank you.”

The event took place three days before a key anniversary for Falun Gong, a meditative practice with moral teachings based on the principles of truthfulness, compassion, and tolerance. On July 20, 1999, the Chinese regime marked the practice for elimination.

Since then, tens of millions of Falun Gong practitioners have been subjected to arbitrary detention, forced labor, and torture, while the regime uses propaganda to manipulate public opinion against the practice.

The persecution campaign, along with the regime’s state-sanctioned forced organ harvesting from Falun Gong practitioners, has resulted in an untold number of deaths.

And the regime doesn’t limit its repression to China.

In late 2022, Chinese leader Xi Jinping instructed top officials to ramp up their efforts to destroy Falun Gong globally by escalating disinformation and instigating lawfare campaigns in the West.

Following Xi’s directive, anti-Falun Gong propaganda has spread in Western media and on social media platforms; paid protesters have shown up on New York City’s streets to promote hatred; and violent threats against the Falun Gong community have escalated.
