For most of us, our bond with our mother was the most vital and sustaining among all our early relationships.
The love that arises out of carrying a child, birthing it and caring for it, and here I go on how it’s been described to me, seems to surpass anything a male can achieve.
I’ve met one or two males in my life who seem to me to have rivalled a mother’s love (G and P). But the general mass of male society, no, I don’t think so. Not really.
And then something funny happens. Something goes askew in our society and females, even mothers, are somehow shouldered aside and they lose the strong protection they deserve from individuals and from society. The various structures of society are skewed towards the male.
No one suffers more from this situation than the single mother. My Mom was one.
I’ve known so many single mothers who barely scrape by. And still their attention is primarily, not on themselves, but on their children.
I was thinking of the wonderful mother I had and I remembered how hard it was for her after she became a single mom.
I also remembered that, though she didn’t have money for the best clothes (and she had great taste, as you can see), she always had money to set really delicious food on the table for us kids. Thick steaks. Pot roasts. Chocolate cake.
That made an indelible impression on me of someone who served others rather than herself. How could she have demonstrated it better in a child’s eyes, who lived by his taste buds and stomach?
The largest part of my attention this Mother’s Day is on single moms like my own, who have to struggle. And my dream this year is that, after the Reval, lightworkers will especially remember single moms, and, after them, women generally. Please contribute to the organization of your choice that works for gender protection and gender equality. (1)
If we want to build a world that works, and I think this statement applies globally, the lot of women has to be the same as the lot of men. Without dispute. Without regret.
My thoughts and love go out to all single moms and my personal thanks for my own upbringing. What I am today, I can say without a shadow of a doubt, is what it is (whatever it is) because of the women in my life and most notably my singular mother.
Happy Mother’s Day to the singular moms of the world and to all women.
