Hunger-striking Ukraine pilot detained in Russia has more strength of will than most of us.
Huge props for this amazing woman! You can see some of the ways I think as so many adages race through my brain trying to understand the motives behind this pilot’s resolve and devotion: Mind over matter, blind faith, it’s all about principle …tremendous courage, determined resilience, immovable in Spirit!
She may have more sheer will and courage in her little finger than I have in my whole Being. Granted, I’ve never been in such a situation. Let’s face it, she’s an amazing soul …as all soldiers are: Willing to die for their country based on their principles! Now, would I do the same thing if I were in her shoes? I don’t know. Maybe …if I had that mentality, I probably would. However I’ll be the first to admit: I do not have that mentality. I was being recruited to play college football at West Point, and yet as appealing in many ways as it was …I could not take the leap and hand my life, my mind, my will over to the military machine. But that’s just me …again, soldiers are my heroes when it comes to honoring their own beliefs and following their hearts in doing what they believe is right: Hands down, no one has more heart. Thank you for your sacrifices!
“A person who was born free and not a slave in captivity cannot live in prison, especially if he or she is innocent,” wrote detainee Nadiya Savchenko in a January 12th open letter shared by her lawyers. “I have given my word: ‘Until the day I return to Ukraine, or until the last day of my life in Russia!’ and I will not back down.”
“Vira Savchenko says her sister’s hunger strike should not be regarded as suicide. ‘It’s her only available form of protest,’ Vira says. ‘It’s a protest because she must be freed, because she is innocent. Ukraine has already provided all the possible proof as well as an ironclad alibi.’” Interestingly, the detainee is a lawmaker for Ukraine Prime Minister, so this case is highly publicized. As such, Russia is carefully contemplating releasing Nadiya, which would effectively be one of the rare times when a hunger strike might actually work! Is Putin recruiting more heavy-hitting allies?
Now, if you have not heard of BRICS, then I must respectfully ask you to please crawl out from under that rock where you’ve been hiding and join us here on planet Earth (wink wink)! A union of countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa), determined to establish global change, continues to meet and generate momentum toward a long overdue transformation of our society. And thank Goddess, because we need it bad!
Some goals of BRICS are “stabilizing capital markets in case of crisis situations in the global economy; deepening the integration of our states; increasing their trade and investment capacities… increasing the efficiency of industrial and technological cooperation; [broadening] cooperation in such areas as energy, mining, metallurgy, agriculture, telecommunications, cutting-edge technologies and expanding cooperation in the humanitarian sphere.” (1)
Russian’s Vladimir Putin has invited Kim Jong-Un, Supreme Leader of North Korea, to Moscow this May to attend the 70th Anniversary of the end of WWII. “If Kim attends the ceremonies, the leader will be in a position to meet several foreign heads of state. Other leaders invited to the ceremony include US President Barack Obama and Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaite, both of whom have refused to attend.” (2)
Personally, I think it’s very smart politics on Putin’s part. As a leader of BRICS, I respect him and am grateful for his courage and marching to the beat of his own drummer, in order to manifest global peace. Further, I’m so grateful this isn’t 1969 or even 1980, when I probably would have been called a communist and traitor for voicing such opinions. Again, thank Goddess for our changing times. Thank Goddess for freedom of speech. And thank Goddess for world leaders who have the courage to deviate from the cabal’s plan of a perpetual debt-enslaved society.
Changes abound: Solitary confinement to be done away with at Rikers Island!
So it seems that we are making a little progress in one prison system: Rikers Island in New York, which is the country’s second largest penal facility. On Tuesday, officials agreed to a plan that would effectively prohibit the use of solitary confinement for 18–21 year olds –yippee yahooey!
“A large body of scientific research indicates that solitary confinement is particularly damaging to adolescents and young adults because their brains are still developing. Prolonged isolation in solitary cells can worsen mental illness and in some cases cause it, studies have shown.”
The department of Correction has faced numerous complaints from just the last year after exposure of horrific brutality and neglect of inmates at Rikers. In response, the city has paid millions of dollars for better personnel and improvements of the prison programs. Further, it has recently prohibited utilizing solitary confinement for age groups of 16-17 year olds.
“With these reforms, New York City has taken an important stand for basic human rights and reaffirmed its commitment to the safety of prisoners, prison staff and our communities,” said Donna Lieberman, the organization’s director. “An institution as profoundly broken as Rikers Island will require wholesale reform to transform into a humane environment that emphasizes treatment and rehabilitation over punishment and isolation, and these rules are a major step forward.” Thank Goddess this has come to an end!
If your current situation is heavy, please remember this too shall pass.
