Jackson Katz: Gender Violence and Silence
Thank you to Laura, who sent this outstanding video to us.
This is a 20-minute TED talk. It was quite possibly some of the best minutes I’ve had the pleasure to spend lately. Jackson has put his finger on the pulse of what ails us in society all over the world in terms of gender violence.
I love how he points out here that by even calling it gender violence, there is the tendency to take this to mean violence only against females, when the violence is really against women, against men, against boys and girls alike. The harm that comes from this violence perpetrated harms everyone, and he makes this case profoundly and clearly.
He calls for men to step up and show mature leadership and for all of us to end our silence in being observers to it.
