One of the emails we’ve received in the course of the last fundraising has come from Sarona, who reminds us:
I don’t have the extra funds to donate but I do know that states have different rules about foreclosure. For instance, in New Mexico it takes 13.5 months for the lender to foreclose, so you can live in your home for free during that time.
I’ve heard of a friend’s daughter not paying her mortgage for four years in Seattle and still, she can live in the house. Please let people know not to leave and to check out their state laws pertaining to foreclosure. The banks may harass them but they can stay. If they move out they’re forfeiting some of their rights and it changes the game.
