Boy, here’s something we’ll probably see more of in the weeks and months ahead. Webmaster Ryan has been getting the sense that he may ascend I believe he said Nov. 11, 2011. So I asked Archangel Michael and he said “yes.” Eeek! Whaddya mean “yes”???!
I’ve been debating whether to discuss it because I don’t want to cause Ryan any embarrassment if the plans change. But in the end we decided that the matter had to be addressed because we’ll need to have at least a stand-in, back-up webmaster and possibly a replacement.
So please don’t be unkind to a deserving lad if it doesn’t come off. We’re all of us new to this whole affair and as sensitive to slights as anyone else.
But if there is someone, preferably in North America where the time zones are more amenable than way over there in far-off storied Anglia, who can serve in as committed a manner as Ryan has on this site, please let me or Ryan know. (Ryan’s contact details appear below.)
Ryan has furnished us with a description of the duties. Let me here publicly thank Ryan who not only has kept everything about the site operating and in trim but also has … well, he may not want me to mention that, but has also given a lot more of himself to this enterprise than mere time. This site is as much his as ours (mine and the other editors).
After you get through marvelling over this one, consider that a certain Director of the Hope Chest/Lightworkers Fund has also been cleared for takeoff, again confirmed by the Boss. Fairly soon I may be back here asking for a replacement for him as well, right, Dave? And, yes, we are putting arrangements in place for a smooth transition. Tom in Bellingham is assisting us. Thank you, Tom.
Website Server Technician & Backup Webmaster Required
Before I started working with Steve on SteveBeckow.com I knew nothing about WordPress, HTML, Servers or Domains, but it’s amazing how far Google and a bit of enthusiasm can get you. As the website grows, my limited knowledge is no longer sufficient to produce the service we all deserve. What this site really needs is a proper web technician to take it to the next level. Although there will always be improvements, what we really need is a technical person who understands things like server logs and can provide insights into how we can improve the site technically and make it run better for everyone. If you are a website developer and have some spare time, we could really do with your help managing the server and helping us understand what makes the site slowdown from time to time.
Another eventuality we have to prepare for is early ascensions. In the event I am ‘unable to turn up to work’ we will need someone who can take over my role as webmaster. Below is a list of responsibilities assigned to the backup webmaster. It may seem like a lot at first, but nearly everything runs itself these days and it’s not very often any major changes or challenges are encountered.
· Adding/Updating new plugins
· Adapting wordpress templates – small changes here and there
· Optimising website for best performance
· How to fix and restart the server if the website goes down
· Handle any technical requests from 2012 users
· Optimise and backup the database
· Manage the GoDaddy hosting account & FeedBlitz newsletter account
If anyone is interested in helping us technically as a website engineer or prepared to act as webmaster please get in contact with me at email@example.com or Skype me: ryan.vaughan2.
