Thanks to Redza for news of Occupy Kuala Lumpur tomorrow.
On October 15th, citizens around the world will take to the streets and squares for a global day of action for real democracy now.
Events planned all over the world: http://15october.net/
On October 15th come stay overnight with us at Dataran Merdeka, join in the “KL People’s Assembly” & party under the stars! Bring your sleeping bag/mat/cloth so we could dream & broaden our imaginations to build a better world together. Also bring musical instruments, games, toys, food or anything that can keep the night young & alive!
4:00pm Express yourself!
Leave your messages of hope (and despair) for the country. Or use the open mic!
5:00pm Live acoustic music & poetry
Music performances and poetry readings by local artists. Starts at 5:00pm & all through the night.
5:30pm Games! Games! Games! (Traditional & modern)
Let’s reclaim the Dataran by reliving our childhood Malaysian padang games with modern twists 😉 “Main kejar-kejar” anyone?
6:30pm People’s Potluck Picnic
…Because Malaysians love to eat! And potlucks embody the spirit of gotong-royong! So please bring one dish, snacks, deserts, kuih or drinks to share for the Potluck. Siapa cepat dia dapat, so come early!
8:00pm – 11:00pm “KL People’s Assembly”
The “KL People’s Assembly” is an open, egalitarian and democratic platform for people to share ideas, address problems, explore alternatives, propose solutions & make decisions on any issues collectively through consensus decision-making & direct participatory democratic processes.
11:00pm More Games! Games! Games!
…Because playing padang games at 11:00pm defies the norm!
12:00am Sekolah Demokrasi Rakyat (Workshops)
What does democracy mean to you? Explore the topic with several workshops for you to choose from!
3:00am Karaoke Merdeka
Unlike conventional karaoke lounges, we’re open for singing at 3:00am onwards! Come let off some steam. Pick from over hundreds of KTV songs!
#OCCUPYDATARAN is a new independent & autonomous grassroots initiative by the youth to reclaim Dataran Merdeka as an open and democratic space for the people. It is not affiliated to any ideology, political party or NGO.
