We owe them more than that. But it would be an appropriate first step.
Getting out of Afghanistan and Iraq would be an appropriate second.
The ninth anniversary of 9/11 is coming up this September. I can think of nothing more appropriate than someone holding a ceremony somewhere (President Obama would be quite acceptable) and confessing the terrible and unwarranted injury we did Muslims in blaming them for the 9/11 terrorist attack.
Muslims in western countries have been subjected to a great deal of mistrust and harassment since then. If you were a Muslim, you were automatically suspect. And none of it was true.
Muslims did not cause 9/11.
The 19 so-called “Arab hijackers,” as I’ve detailed in a number of articles (1) and countless others have looked at in books, films, websites too numerous to list, (2) were probably never on the planes they were alleged to be on.
Several “hijackers” after 9/11 were tracked down to Saudi Arabia and other Middle-Eastern countries. One was surprised to learn that he had died in Pennsylvania. He didn’t even know where Pennsylvania was.
The Saudi government made its case to George Bush that a number of its citizens said to be implicated were still alive and Bush accepted their findings. But no word of it ever reached the mainstream media.
The “hijackers” who learned to fly airplanes and caroused around the States were, as far as I’m aware, in the pay of the CIA.
Osama bin Laden (also known as “Tim Osman,” his CIA cover name) was nowhere near an Afghani cave on 9/11. He was recovering in a Rawalpindi hospital for a kidney complication, surrounded by a Pakistani military guard after the hospital had been cleared of all its ordinary staff.
He couldn’t have made the broadcast attributed to him in which he gloated over the successful attack.
Several months earlier, he had gone to a Dubai hospital where he met with the local CIA chief. At the time he was wanted for the African embassy blast. Nothing came of the CIA knowing his wherabouts: he was not arrested and not assassinated.
As far as I know, he’s been dead for years – hence the disbanding of various government teams established to find him.
Bin Laden was never charged for 9/11. Check out the FBI website. Evidently they don’t know he’s been dead for years either. (Irony intended.)
Why was he not charged? Well, probably because his accusers would have had to marshall their evidence to convince a grand jury and heaven knows where that might have led.
Pakistani ISI General Mahmoud Ahmad accepted $100,000 from American officials in Washington the morning of Sept. 11 to forward to Mohammed Atta for his role in 9/11, which most importantly consisted of travelling to Boston, being photoed on closed circuit TV, and then turning around and leaving the country.
Before 9/11, he spent time in the States making a nuisance of himself and living off the taxpayer’s money. He wasn’t on a “hijacked” plane that fateful day.
Who engineered 9/11? A large number of conspirators from the Pentagon, State Department, CIA, FBI, NORAD, MOSSAD, a consortium of banks, security firms, airlines, and other businesses, local-government officials, and numerous other John Does.
The actual operation against the World Trade Center and Pentagon appears to have been controlled from the U.S.S. George Washington, anchored off Long Island Sound.
Where are Muslims in all this?
As we approach the ninth anniversary of 9/11, perhaps we should consider the most fitting of actions – apologizing to Muslims of the world for falsely accusing them of the world’s worst terrorist act when we engineered it ourselves.
And next we should leave the two countries we falsely blamed for these events or falsely accused of planning others.
